Armada gets tech-savvy

We know there are some modders who see the complexity and sheer number of the object definition files (ODF) in FO as a hurdle that they aren't willing to take on in order to add new content for FO. Which is understandable. We face the same problems extending Fleet Operations and therefore we currently invest a lot of time in making Fleet Operations easier to mod and maintain not only for you, but also for us.

Hot spot zooming

If you have played the RTS game Supreme Commander which was released in 2007, you for sure have noticed that it featured a at the time new of it's kind method to allow navigation on the map dubbed "strategic zoom". It allows to zoom out very far that your battlefield is only being shown as minimap representation of the map and get back to a certain point of interest quickly. While we don't think such a feature exactly would fit a more 'classic' RTS game like Star Trek Armada which usually have a lot less units on the battlefield at a time compared to Supreme Commander it still can serve as inspiration to improve the now one decade old usability of the game we are developing for.

Star Trek Armada Patch 1.3 Project

We have developed Fleet Operations as a modification with intent on continuing the spirit which made Armada 1 that awesome game for Star Trek fans back then. This is why we often try to go 'back to the roots' and look at what Star Trek and Star Trek Armada was and was about at this time. This of course also includes looking at Armada 1 itself, so we never lose focus on what we are trying to achieve with Fleet Operations.
