"Just being shot at" with stronger weapons three times more often a D12 ever could.
And the Odyssey wasn't really better than the Enterprise D and because the war hadn't got started at this point, she was not outfitted for war like the Venture. The Odyssey was one of the original Galaxies fitted for all BUT war.

i dont know about the dominion beam strength, but i seem to recall that the dominion beams were passing right through the odysseys' shields like they wern't even there.  getting rammed didn't help it any.

Is is possible that the Odyssey's shields were not at full strength. In which case, they would not be very useful.

Nope, the weapons were going straight through the shields of a ship that was expecting a tough battle from the start. Shields at less than full strength would just not take as much of a beating.

the odyssey transferred all the power from shields to weapons because the bug ships beams were punching straight thru them

defiant class, because its small, fast, powerful and hard to catch.

Odo: You'd shoot a man in the back?
Garak: It's the safest way, isn't it?

with a speed of warp 9.4 3 photon torpeado launchers, and 14 phaser banks the Ambassador class modernized is said to be on par with the early Galaxy class in speed and power. At least 37 Ambassador class ships were built, by 2377 she was ageing but interesting enough only 6 Galaxy class ships were ever built .

The galaxy class is a nice looking ship, but its not a combat ship, lets be real here, yes she can to a point hold her own, but not for long. Look at the Soverign class more gearerd for war than exploration, the old Constitution class again more deasigned for combat. The Excelsior could take more of a beating. If you look at yesterdays Enterprise, yes she is fighting 3 bird of prey, and the more modern version, however the ENTERPRISE-1701-C IS TAKEING ON 4 ROMULAN WARBIRDS NOW MY POINT. I like the Galaxy class but again she barley beat one bird of prey while the other 2, had a field day with her and they didnt find her shield harmonics.

We don't actually know anything about the C's last battle, other than it was against as few Romulan Warbirds and the C got butchered. The ships the D fought were K'Vort Class, which were Battlecruisers in that timeline. Klingons are also far better in battle than Romulans are...

That's basically what I told many posts before, Tyler. And the C fought four warbirds as Garrett stated when Picard talked to her in sick bay, so she was simply outnumbered, outgunned, outchanced, and because the enemies were romulan Garrett was "outthought" too.

Just any ship/registry from the Defiant class. I like the no-nonsense approach of that tough little ship.

You'd like Star Trek:  New Frontier, navyguy.  It's a novel series by Peter David, a really good author.  The Excalibur was an ambassador class starship and in the novels it is commanded by one of the best captains in Starfleet, at least in my opinion.  It's a good series.

Go Go Ambassador Class! :woot:
