well one thing ive alwyas hated about starfleet, is there always to worried about makeing ships for exploring, the other guys dont mind makeing them for war

In Generations the Duras sisters hacked Geordi's visor and used it to get the shield frequencies for the Enterprise.

That's why a remodulation would have been helpful... and the warpcore breach was coming up _after_ the BoP was destroyed. The first hits haven't done that much damage.

As for the Odyssey, yes, it may have been under assault from three Jem'Hadar vessels but keep in mind that that ship was probably outfitted for war, it knew the attack was comming, and was not a sitting duck. Think of it this way, the Enterprise was sniped while the Odyssey was just being shot at.

"Just being shot at" with stronger weapons three times more often a D12 ever could.
And the Odyssey wasn't really better than the Enterprise D and because the war hadn't got started at this point, she was not outfitted for war like the Venture. The Odyssey was one of the original Galaxies fitted for all BUT war.

I'm sorry if I got my timeline wrong, it's been a while since I've seen the movie.

That doesn't mean that it wasn't refitted to some extent after the war began. Given better shields or hull improvements, etc.

Why does noone like the Avalon? 

Reason 1: It is too slow.
Reason 2: It is poorly armed, even a Monsoon can kill it!
Reason 3: It is also poorly shielded.
Reason 4: Only limited production, and everyone would rather go for the Phalanx if they wanted a limited production vessel.
