Sovereign Class - Durability Issues
You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

The problem is you people test these theories for your personal gain (in having what ships you want nerfed or buffed) in SET PIECE battles, how about you play online? I'm sure there's a ton of people here willing to whoop you with the Federation.

Ok, let's remember that the sovereign held its own against a cube in First Contact, and did fairly well against the Scimitar when its cloak wasn’t the advantage anymore (too late though).
With that in mind, i agree it needs a boost in FO in some manner, even if just switching the special weapon with akira.

By the way, that reminds me Ray: you gonna keep ignoring me, or join me for a game online!?
@Jarod: and an Intrepid kicked the crap out of several Cubes, Spheres, Probes etc. Your point?
...and nooooooow back on topic-ish.

i find all those test silly.
why people think 'if i put sov vs negh'var and the negh'var wins ergo feds r too weak and need a boost'? this is as wrong as it can possibly be.
first of all u should take in account how rapidly a race can expand, how strong is the race early game, special abilities, economy cost and so on. putting two ships vs each other and drawing conclusions about entire race or ship being useless is ... silly to put it nicely. the sov is just paying the price for other fed goodies.
secondly the sov is not a ship to spam. it's a ship that is good to have around. just 1-2 per fleet is enough.
if somebody is wondering i'm not v happy about the idea of switching sa for akira and sov. having it on akira makes feds stronger imo.

The weapons don't fit on the ships they're on right now, the switch will improve things.

Certainly, because if you have more than 2 Sovs per fleet you loose, because you could have spent the money for them far better.
The Akira is fine - the problem is that there is no reason to build Sovereigns instead of Excelsiors or Defiants. The more in price, is not reflected in battle performance. Perhaps the special weapon exchange can improve that.

Let's also remember that during the first part of the battle, the Scimitar wasn't shooting to kill because Shinzon needed Picard. The Scimitar quite easily crippled 2 Romulan warbirds and I can't quite believe that the Enterprise would be *that* much stronger than the Norexan class.

The only thing Enterprise did that caused any notable damage to Scimitar was ram it, any ship can do that and it doesn't say anything about how strong the ship is.

i'm not using the sov because it has good off value, i'm using it for its sa that i find useful.

It was explained in another thread the advantage of switching those 2 Speacial Weapons; //www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,4678.0/

Actually it is. It has been stated:
"unlike Starfleet thought at first, the Norexan is not nearly as powerful as the Sovereign*
Besides, did you compare the cost of the two units?

brick wrote:Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the forum. I would first like to say what a great mod Fleet Operations is - it virtually is a game on it's own. I play it most often with my brother via LAN and it's great what you've done so far, so keep it up!
There is one niggle I do have, and by all means correct me if i'm wrong. The Sovereign Class is supposed to be the Federation's premier starship design (i.e. it is the most advanced and capable class aside from limited types such as the Prometheus). I find that no matter how I use Sovereigns in my fleets, they just don't seem to be that durable. I'm not talking about firepower, but in terms of defensive strength they seem to be not half as good as the primary battleships of other races.
To back up my argument - just think of the beating the Enterprise-E took in Insurrection from the Sona, and the shooting to bits it received from the Scimitar in Nemesis - this is a class of ship that seems to be very good at getting the daylights kicked out of it but still remaining in one piece. (Admittedly, not every Sovereign is as durable as the Enterpise-E was in these cases) - but it just stands to reason that the Sovereign might be a tad more resistant than it is now in FO.
Just my two pence worth.
Thoughts anyone?
I have two things to say. First, the Enterprise is a flagship....its supposed to be the best of all the Sovereign class ships. Second, Fleet Ops isn't designed like most RTS. Its not spam your end unit and see who can resource fastest. Its about mixing and matching different types of fleets to get different effects. My brother plays feds and has no problem whooping people and he maybe has 2 Sovereigns per full fleet.

Hmm, where was that stated?

The best in terms of crew experience. Technology-wise, it is identical to every other Sovereign.

Probably on a non-canon, higly 'improvised' site.
