Sovereign Class - Durability Issues

Hi guys, I'm fairly new to the forum. I would first like to say what a great mod Fleet Operations is - it virtually is a game on it's own. I play it most often with my brother via LAN and it's great what you've done so far, so keep it up!

There is one niggle I do have, and by all means correct me if i'm wrong. The Sovereign Class is supposed to be the Federation's premier starship design (i.e. it is the most advanced and capable class aside from limited types such as the Prometheus). I find that no matter how I use Sovereigns in my fleets, they just don't seem to be that durable. I'm not talking about firepower, but in terms of defensive strength they seem to be not half as good as the primary battleships of other races.

To back up my argument - just think of the beating the Enterprise-E took in Insurrection from the Sona, and the shooting to bits it received from the Scimitar in Nemesis - this is a class of ship that seems to be very good at getting the daylights kicked out of it but still remaining in one piece. (Admittedly, not every Sovereign is as durable as the Enterpise-E was in these cases) - but it just stands to reason that the Sovereign might be a tad more resistant than it is now in FO.

Just my two pence worth.

Thoughts anyone?

Most on the forum don't want the Sovereign to be capable of defending itself. If any one asks about it, someone brings up 'balance' and the discussion is doomed.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

you are not alone here with the perception that the Federation high-end ships are not what you think they should. Some other members have already posted similar suggestions here.
We have discussed that topic in the dev team a few days ago and made some first sketches on a redo of the Federation vessel outline and the techtree and basic gameplay in general. There will probably some changes in the next patches, but it will take a while ^-^

she is already worth building, you can put her to great use. but we might change the federation vessel characteristics a bit

Maybe the feds should automatically win when they build the Sovie then.  :rolleyes:
Optec said they will look at it, u should be happy and stop moaning already. Well, if you expect a god-ship then u will never stop moaning I guess....

Well, if it's going to be looked at - then that's good. I don't think anyone wants the Sovereign to be an uber-ship that kills everything else in sight - because that would just disrupt the balance. How about maybe raising its build cost in exchange for making it a tad more resistant to damage?

Sounds good to me :)

Although imo, that engine disabling special is an...noying to play *against* :D

althought i agree it coulde use a little more def, its speical aballity is brutal, espicialy aginst ships with fireing arcs

all i have to say to the dev team, is that as one of the major supporters and pushers, on some fed redoing, thanks for pissibly changing it in the future as you stated in this post, and i also agree with you guys, the sovy isnt usless, the engine thing can help somtimes, but on the other hand, right now, its probably better to just build alot of excelsiors, and akiras relly dont help that much, so id like it if the miranda two was added, but the sovy does need to be redone, also about the defiant, the ship is fricking powerful, i think it could be a bit stronger as well

but also guys, can some of you fricking RELAX, ive seen a bunch of you who arnt supports keep on worrying that there going to turn a sovy into the most poweful ship more powerful then a tavara, relax alrady. let them look at it, and if its to powerful in the end then they will change it, might i also say, corbon light defelector, as a posibility, but mainly, it needs more attack, its defense is okay but needs a bit of a boost, as its supposed to be deep space explorer, and a flagship, it however needs alot of attack
