ST XI *SPOILER WARNING*
What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

Vulcan's won't be extinct, just because they reproduce once every 7 years. Most humans only reproduce a few times over a period of 2-5 years. As long as each couple has at least 2 offspring, the race will continue to grow.

But I believe the differences goes far beyond that, just like in a "mirror"
Personaly I can't believe the Federation can survive without Vulcan.
Some consequences are:
- Extinction of all Vulcans (they reproduce once in 7 years, with 10000 left they will become extinct in a few centuries)
- "Rebooted" Spock will die killed by Khaan (assuming that the new univers will follow the canon events), cause they revived it on Vulcan.
- All other Vulcans from the other series died: Tuvok from VOY, the evil guy Syboc from Star Trek V, that ensign from some episodes of TNG, and so on...
Oh my... I'm still shocked XD
Tuvok might not even be dead, wasn't he 80 years old when he was on the Excelsior?
Vulcans do seem to be concerned about the survival of their species, mabey they will spread themselves out, for logic's sake, incase of accidents. Also I think their wives are chosen by their parents (I think, because Sarek had a human wife), and so it would be more impersonal, and they would "regroup". All and all, with 10000 left, and being aliens, I coulden't make a good guess about wheather they will survive or not. Seems like they would be most likely though.
The new Enterprise's maximum warp speed is warp 8, and so that will probably mess up some of the canon events, or at least the time they are discovered

Also, the logic of having 10,000 survivors is quite beyond me... Vulcan had plenty of colonies: what happened to the citizens of these colonies? I don't think it is reasonable to assume that they all suddenly went back to the home world on that day... so I believe the estimate was way off. Just like the Kelvin's 800 person crew

You know guys there is an explanation that will make you all happy from star trek online. The new movie takes place in a mirror universe. Kind of like the episode of TNG called Parallels. The standard timeline exists in a separate universe and the new movie exists in another.

Yup that is correct: in fact, JJ Adams stated that the new movies will not necessarily follow the previously stated "canon". Having a new universe allows you to do all sorts of nifty things

I read somewhere that that did not include off worlders

That would make sense, the Homeworld was the only Vulcan planet seen to be evacuated.
