I respect your opinion, and of course I cant read the developers minds, but I think its very unlikely that we will ever see anything like that in fleet ops.

One can hope  :innocent:

A maps which had several "alternative" timeline units and/or non canon units in it would be rather interesting.

Such a map could also harbor the warship voyager. :borg:

The Warship Voyager is a picture-perfect example of what a Terran Empire vessel should be like.

Yes, sure

But I think the Federation must have some Warships, not only the Defaint.

I use Defiant-class ships to take down Tavaras.  Critical Shot makes those little things gods on the battlefield.  Hard to survive a few Defiants when you can't shoot back.

Starfleet has warships. What do you think the Akira, Descent & Miranda-II are?

actually starfleet has 1 class warships and some ships that still count as normal science vessel but are way more developed in the direction combat ... so these are more or less warships. Tylers list was correct but u can add the steamrunner and the upgraded galaxy ships

The Steamrunner would be nice to have as a buildable federation vessel. I was rather surprised that it was only available as a warp-in.

The saber and Steamrunner were both introduced at roughly the same time.

I think the Steamrunner is a Warp-In mainly because of it's status, the artillery thing makes it lethal to any station if used right. If it was buildable, you'd have a fleet of ships equipt with the Tricobalt Triloader. That weapon allows one Steamrunner to do impressive damage to a Starbase's shields.

But that is still thinking in the A1/A2 box where Steamrunners were artillery platforms.

Looking at the original function it is a light cruiser comparable to the newer Intrepid.

A Steamrunner with conventional weapons and a engine disable special could be quite useful in breaking up large scale assaults, separating the fast fighters from the big guns.

Especially paired with Sabers as it was originally intended. Steamrunners + Sabers as a quick reaction force before the almighty Defiant makes it's depute.

I know that the Steamrunner would be more like the show with conventional weapons, I mentioned before that people on a2files complained about Armada 'ruining' it by making it an artillery ship, but that function has just stuck with it.

I suggested giving it a basic Phaser (the only canon weapon it has) and no-one on this site liked the idea.

Taking information from DITL (Steamrunner Class - Specs) there is a mention of the refit for the Steamrunner to take on border patrol duties.

Since FO is 20 years after the dominion war it is safe to assume such a refit would be standard.

So with this refit the Steamrunner would be a good early complement to the Saber

That site considers it to be something along the lines of a scout to light cruiser and not very strong, with a registry that suggests it is older than the Akira Class.

Unfortunatly, Memory Alpha has little on it.
