I guess I disagree. Borg ships are much too universal in size to not have been constructed some how, for example the Diamond, Sphere, Cube and tactical cube are much too consistent in size with one another to be constructs of other ships imo.

I am somewhat of that same opinion Rhaz. I think that although assimilation would bring in resources and the ilk, I think that borg ships are constructed as well ... in the sort of way that FO now does it  :sweatdrop: (the consistency in my opinion has nothing to do with it though IMO... )

Since the Borg are very methodical, they might just start with a standard "template" and build off that; using captured ships for resources/crew ... or harvesting planets, etc.

Regarding assimilation, I doubt you'd find an intrepid inside a cube, as all the components would long ago been stripped away. Plus, that would not go according to Borg dogma (imperfect species' components are discarded)

If all Borg were completely dependent on assimilation... then they could never spread because the earliest Borg would be inferior and ill-adapted to fighting other more advanced species. Hence they MUST do some research themselves, as well as build their own ships from collected resources in order to expand and assimilate. Plus, consider the size of Borg vessels... do you honestly think that they captured that much bulk weight in enemy ships? Their ships are so huge and numerous that I doubt it would be possible to capture that number of enemy ships and crew. Plus, the Borg do give birth and raise children, so they are not entirely dependent on assimilation  :whistling:

they give birth i thought borg children are children who were assimulated or unborn babies that the parent was assimulated as for borg ships yh i guess the main ones were built but it would be great to see assimulated ships become totally borgified. and borg do research look at when they encounted 8472 (although they do not seem to be as good at it as other races

Borg research is done thru assimilation, thus why they were having trouble with 8472.

It isn't done just thru assimilation; as they have many unique weaponery/ship designs and the ilk that are hardly from another race. (common, who else built a cube that big anyway?) I am quite sure (again, my own opinion given that this is merely a made up species) that they have the ability to forge ahead in terms of research. IMHO the borg do research better; look how friggin advanced they are compared to the other races. Even though they had trouble with 8472, they withstood them better than any other race could.

Yup, borg children do exist: if you remember, some of the borg ships had tubes in them with developing children... and one episode had a whole slew of borg children being grown. Also, there is that one episode titled "One" in which a borg drone is created from the Doc's mobile emitter and someone's cell.

Borg children are raised in the tubes, but they are not created that way.
In the episode "Drone" Seven says "That they assimilate, they don't reproduce in this fashion."

Also in another episode of Voyager Seven tell Harry that some tech they have was assimilated from another species, not created by their own hand.

I know. It was a joke about the Borg only building on top of Assimilated Ships.

I guess it depends on the source material.
In the startrek novel "The Return"  Picard is inside a small Borg ship that is comprised of parts of a Miranda class ship lost at Wolf 359.

i think its a combo the borg starts with the core of the assimulated ships but either make em scrap or build on them but also build there own

Something like that, kinda like a some RTS games were you start out with a low tech power station, but later on when you have the higher tech version you  discard the old low tech version.

yh i guess or like a pc there is only so much improvements you can do before u need a new motherbords psu or case so u get a new one

i borg style they assimulate a ship but they can only do so much before they cant do anything without removing the core (the original ship) and replace it with total borg parts

DOCa Cola wrote:actually in v3 final the borg don't use any shipyards at all to build their vessels and they still are great at assimilating ;) however it is nearly impossible in an rts like armada to let the borg rely only on assimilating other races without the races get out of balance in one way our another. i think the 'borg feeling' improved a lot over beta 2 - and not only in model quality ;)

What if they only upgraded ships they start with a scout then up grade it then counted to upgrade until they reached the ship they liked now if they assimilated a hostile appoints ships they would just upgrade from the class level.
