Borg Ship Construction

    On the real show, the Borg built ships by assimilating other ships. They don't have shipyards or construction ships. On the episode of Enterprise "Regeneration", they first assimilate the Arctic transport ship. As they head back to Borg space, they assimilate several more ships, and their ship starts to look more and more like a cube. They were even starting to intigate Enterprise toward the end of the show.
    No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get used to the idea of the Borg having shipyards. It's just not canon. Maybe, the borg can start with building a constuction ship, and the constuction ship assimilates other alien ships untill it becomes a perfect cube.
    All the Borg ships, and stations, should have an assimilation beam. They should also have a technology assimilation beam. That way, each Borg ship, and station, would be unique and different.
    At the beggining of the game, you should automaticly start with a Borg starbase, and a transwarp portal to warp or transwarp other Borg ships in using credits. At last, you'd be able to get a real feel for the Borg.




Oh, and also... The Borg cubes should be more powerfull (like at Wolf 359) and cost alot of
credits.  :borg:

I would think the 8472 resource stealing beam would work better in this case for the borg.

Anyhow if you read the Trek novel"The Return"  featured a Borg vessel being built from what's left of a colony.

your idea to have all borg ships to have assim and tech assim beams does make sence
also the idea to not have shipyards (altho i think it is not possible to change a sod just by assimulating another model what you could do is to have a research facility that researches things like ship hulls (cube diamond sphere) and different tech (mayb like the tech assimulator). one question does the mixed tech idea allow ships/stations that could not build/research/evolve to be able if so you could allow assimulated ships to be able to "evolve" into more borg like

that also makes perfect sence but may restrict the borg to start with and against 8472 unless they can still mine raw materials but i heard the weapon only work to convert into biomatter

actually in v3 final the borg don't use any shipyards at all to build their vessels and they still are great at assimilating ;) however it is nearly impossible in an rts like armada to let the borg rely only on assimilating other races without the races get out of balance in one way our another. i think the 'borg feeling' improved a lot over beta 2 - and not only in model quality ;)

Yeh from what i read in the new forum about the Borg,it's farely Borg like. ;)

You mite use the seperation special to change the ships.
As for reseasrching tech,The Borg could use their tech assimilator station to gain new hulls,armor,engine and the like.
And if the tech pods could be replaced (slot limit of four) you could have a variety of ship options.

Do you want a faster sphere or a armored cube.,longer sensor range or faster shield recharge.

I think this is something that is being aimed for in the new release though with the upgrades.

Biomatter=metal in the odfs.
If you could add the 8472 biomatter account column to the borg race it could be used as a special resource for buying certain ships/weapons/upgrades.

  At the beggining of the game, you could start by warping Borg ships in by using credits. Make the cubes more powerful (like on The Best of Both Worlds) As you assimilate ships, you could fuse them together like fusion cube. And by doing that, you could form a ship.
 
  To build a different kind of borg ship, you would use a different amount of assimilated ships. For example: 3 ships= Borg Sphere, 6 ships= Borg Cube, 8 ships = Tactical Cube.
  Also, make it alot easier to assimilate ships.

    I also like the idea of  researching hulls too.

This is just an idea, and maybe good for a future version of Fleetops.

fusing ships would be possible and it is a good idea but you would have to make a special weapon  and ODF file (info, stats, ect...) for every possible combo of ships :shifty: and if their are 5 ships per race (and their is more like 30+) that would be 25*24*23 possible combs that is 13K+ (and that is only if you have only one of each ship type in the fusion) if not it would be 25[sup]3[/sup] (or 25 raised to the power of the number of ships in the of fusion!!) and that is if their are only 5 ships per race. so good idea but impractical. it would take less time to make a new game engine and make that possible then to do it for each combo

What if you decide what kind of ship your ship transforms into based on what the original ship was?
For example: A Federation cruiser (or klingon cruiser, or Romulan...ect) could turn into a Borg vessel that's a cruiser. Would that be easier?

I don't know about you guys...but Borg Cubes? Spheres, ect? Where are they originally built if not at shipyards in the DQ?

They're built from other ships. The Borg are completely dependent on assimilation.

1. If they only work with Assimilation, where were the original ships from?
2. Does that mean that if you strip away a Borg Cube, there will be an Intrepid or something inside?
3. They should have a station to repair at least.
