Yeah, if they kept Atlantis on Earth, it would be like sending a big middle finger at the Pegasus Galaxy, as they let the wraith continue their cycle of feeding on other races.  Taking away their only hope of breaking the cycle would be kind of mean.

Well, there's supposed to be an Atlantis movie in the works (DVD release only, just like the Stargate movies) so we'll find out I suppose.

unless i am mistaken atlantis was out of energy when it got to earth. I didnt know that about atlantis, thats cool

Well, it couldn't have been completely sucked dry, otherwise it wouldn't have been able to operate the cloak, which we can presume was up. Otherwise all of San Francisco would have been standing on the Golden Gate Bridge saying, "Daddy, why is there a giant floating snowflake over there?"

It does raise an interesting question though, how is the government going to cover up this almost alien invasion. Because you have to admit, this is probably the closest the battle has ever come to inhabited regions of Earth.

true but when Carson says he can fire drones or establish a stable orbit. Something inside me says it will be a while before the city goes anywhere

True, they have very little power and are certainly not returning to Pegasus anytime soon, but they have enough to keep afloat (no pun intended).

i disagree, i believe in the last episode that sheppard implied that when atlantis was fixed it would be able to return. but the decision to order atlantis back to pegasus hadnt been made yet.

after the destroyed Midway Station, after countless deadalus trips back and forth, there is NO WAY that earth would send the base back.  no more sending SOME teams back and forth, the BASE IS THERE.  explore that city in 3 days now, get the ENTIRE SGC there.  i can totally see Earth saying "screw pegasus"

they lost Earths ancient chair in the attack, but now they got Atlantas.  you honestly thing they would give that up?  go spend a lot of resources and loves defending a far distant part of the galaxy no one here has ever heard of in the civilian world

how else will Universe ever get home.  send Atlantais after it.  should catch up in a few weeks.

as for Carsons piloting, Altantas might not have been out of power, he just sucks at multi-tasking.  HE could only establish orbit or open fire,  Sheppard could have done both  :D

different galaxy. :P

thats silly. destiny had been going for at least several hundred thousand years, more likely millions, using some crazy faster than light (probably faster than hyperspace) and was powered by stars. that easily beats 3 zpms.

atlantis's hyperdrive couldnt catch destiny. that leaves the deus ex machina wormhole drive. which MIGHT be fast enough, but it was risky and presumably uses a lot of power.

flying after destiny is a silly idea as they don't even know where it is. they saw a map on destiny once, they could use that to find where they are.

it's most likely that the stargate's ninth chevron will see more action.

hmm good point i guess i just assumed he was referring to power.

I dont believe that Atlantis when back to Pegasus however that doesnt mean that the sgc might not still be operating teams from there

it was smart of them not to let sheppard fly atlantis, if he was in the chair he would have just done a suicide run and smashed it into the super hive.

But not before he engaged the cloak and had some bombs on board.  Oh, and at the last second of his heroic act, someone would step in and save his ass.  Because Atlantis was completely spontaneous and never predictable... :whistling:

I don't even know what people like about Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis at all, even if I try to understand it's just annoying to me  :ermm:
In the movie, that one pyramid-like ship was just interesting. If in the series they pull whole fleets of similar things out of their almost empty heads because for some reason these Goaould guys are a supermighty empire and left earth when they sucked balls long enough to be bored. So why the whole them-against-all-others-thing? And the characters... erm... human-looking things with names and guns who walk through gates which bring them to any place a comparable gate stands on. Also, they do not really own the gate. They just use it. So why is the audience supposed to care about a stupid military-troop that could die because they do things they aren't even allowed to by own technology? It's a little like in Star Trek: Insurrection when the audience is supposed to care about a few Ba'Ku who are to be driven from a planet they don't even originate from, and worse, Picard and Crew working along with them even after just getting the information that the Son'a are used to be the same race and they were driven away from the Ba'Ku because they just had different views about technology usage.

You're supposed to care because MacGyver, the coolest mullet this side of the 80's, led the team.

But I agree with most of what you said.  The show really had a lot of potential, but I think it failed to achieve it.  Science fiction has always been one of two things.  It's either used for a platform to discuss the human condition (which is why I watch it), or it is to push the envelope with strange and wacky things (Dr. Who and farscape style scifi).  The appeal of stargate was exploring the unknown in our present time, instead of in someone's rendition of the future.  That and MacGyver. B)

But the times they did do human condition stuff, it often felt one-sided (wait, genocide really is bad??!!  Thanks for telling us, Stargate!) or heavy-handed.  Or an even greater problem:  It was just plain boring.  They'd labor endlessly about the plight of this or that race at the conference table.  Even more so than a TNG episode! :P

It was also very formulaic.  Every time you turned around, galaxy controlling aliens were vying for control the galaxy (Goauld, Ori, Wraith), and the only ones who can stop them are crack teams from the U.S. Airforce.  The Russian teams always died horribly, or superior Russian engineering was causing a potential crisis (the russian stargate ep with marina sirtis)  Oh, and machine guns, rocket launchers, and bows and arrows are far superior to highly advanced shield technology and laser beams. :D  Also, you can unlock any complex alien technology if you have Carter and some bad guys who are 30 seconds away from blowing you to bits. ^-^

That doesn't mean it didn't have its appeal.  There were some funny moments in the show, the groundhog day episode was a riot.  So it had its moments.  They could have done better though.  Stargate Universe is more about people and how we relate to one another, so I'm kind of liking it.  It's not "teh best show eva", but I keep tuning in, so they must be doing something good.

Of course, there's always science fiction that is able to both expand the imagination, while exploring who we are as a people.  I just like to call that Babylon 5. B)
