They were beyond the point of mere stupidity, past even arrogance.

That episode makes me cringe. They weren't even ensigns yet and they looked like kids, but they were playing Captain and Crew. Barf!

On the subject of ensigns, I present Robin Lefler:

No, talked about DS9 and the big war scenes. The fights were faster, no shields, just explosions. :)

I reckon it was just a visual thing, so that we could better see the action. I remember the Defiant crew talking about their shields taking a beating, but we couldn't see anything when the ship got hit, so we should probably try to imagine a very thin shield covering the ship. A bit like in Nemesis but even more invisible!  B)

She was a young engineer, and a rather foxy one too. She only appeared in two episodes, primarily in the episode "The Game" in the 5th season of TNG. The first time I saw her my socks literally launched off my feet. The second time I saw her I realised she was actually played by the well known actress Ashley Judd. Hot stuff.  :sweatdrop:

And she qualifies for stupid how? By being chosen for a mission?

When I watched Generations I was like:

REMODULATE SHIELDS AND RETURN FIRE!
But no.... Riker starts to talk about some stupid plasma coil.... :S

And Worf was stupid too. He miscalculated the time it takes for a rocket fired from the planet to reach the star.
11 minutes instead of 11 seconds you idiot!

Missiles tend to be a bit faster in Trek than real life. The Plasma coil was an important part of destroying the enemy, though it would make more sense to simply turn around and bring the Galaxy's vastly superior firepower onto them.

I reckon six photon torpedoes would have done the job very quickly. Fire all weapons!! And let it serve as a sign: nobody should be such a dumbass as to attack a gigantic Federation starship and get away with it.

Don't forget that the enterprise has proven that it can eject spare antimatter at fairly close range, everywhere.  So they could have just dumped antimatter onto an unshielded ship.

The Duras sisters were pummeling the ship with torps and disruptors coming through the shields but NONE of the bridge crew decided was necessary to change the shield harmonics. A simple adjustment would have left a big FU for the 2 klingon broads but instead they choose to take the pummeling and blow the Ent D up(or at least the stardrive section)

I definitely think that there was something noobish about how the Enterprise crew handled that fight. Actually, if I remember rightly, the Duras sisters were using a hidden camera in his visor to see everything Geordie could see. It's plausible, though not seen directly on screen, that Geordie was making adjustments only to find the crew aboard the Bird of Prey were adjusting their own disruptors using the camera to spy the changes. Even so, Riker really should have said "Phasers and Photon torpedoes! Full spread! Fire at will" rather than mess about with those plasma coils.

Actually, what they SHOULD have done reminds me of General Martok during the Dominion War when his Bird of Prey was fighting with some bugs ships. Their shields were useless so he gave the order to drop them, transfer power to the disruptors and remove the safety override to overload them.

Yep, even the most powerful shields are pointless if you're not firing back. I know - because I once I was battling a few birds of prey in Bridge Commander, using my Galaxy class. My phone rang so I grabbed that with my left hand, and then someone gave me a cup of tea so I grabbed that with the other hand. By the time I was finally able to reach for the "pause" key, my ship was space dust.

Anyway, I agree that they ended up looking like a bunch of first year cadets. Annoyingly, it was only the 'last torpedo' which caused the warp core breach (according to La Forge). If they'd simply destroyed the damned bird of prey to start with, they would have only had a few repairs to make. Makes me wonder what Picard thought when he discovered that the f**king ship had been destroyed under Riker's command.
