i wonder how many people have approached al gore and erroneously tried to use the cold weather to discredit his invention of global warming.

To apply Global Warming on a regional scale is misleading: on average global temperatures are still rising, at increasingly rapid rates. Cold spells are becoming less frequent (even if they still occur), and the incidence of high temperature extremes increases.

Isn't global warming supposedly moving the gulf stream north, that normally keeps the UK mild?

Sorry to jump from one topic to another, but neither one relates to the thread's original topic, so I think it's ok.

Check m-w.com, Enterprise has an actual meaning that doesn't relate to vessel. Both Starfleet and real-life Enterprise's probably got their name from the dictionary definition.

The French also had an Enterprise, a frigate L'Entreprise.

HMS Enterprise - 15 British ships, more than America had...
Enterprise - Read meaning 2 and tell me that isn't something Starfleet would use as the origin for  ships name...

That was part of my point.  But if the Star Trek Enterprise is named after a ship, it could just as easily be named after a British ship as an American one.

While watching Star Treak First Contact, i noticed that after earth was done destroying itself after the 3rd world war, the picture of the United States shows up in the picture. The actual physical nature and pysical boundries of the United States are well seen from the Enterprise, yes its earth but it sure as hell as the day is long is the picture of the United States of Americia. First contact is made in the United States, Montana, Star Fleet is based in California, to dispute that its not taken place in America, and has ties tied in with NASA, is hard to argue. If this had taken place in Russia, or England, or Germany, it would be well embraced. I dont understand why its hard for some to see that Star Fleet is an Americian foundation. I think because some of us Americians are proud of our country were assumed to be anti to the world. This is the last on this subject, i know not everyone will agree, but this is how i feel.

The whole world was united before the creation of the federation so California or San Fransisco is no longer "America" or the "United states".

There is nothing wrong with being patriotic in fact i applaud you for this, but i deplore you for being ignorant.

yes i agree with eraldo, loving one's country is good.

but you cannot say starfleet is american.

the un is headquartered in america, but is not american. infact the un headquarters are considered interational territory and not american land. so there is a hole in america lol.

the eu sits in brussels but is not belgian.

The WTO is headquartered in geneva, but is not swiss.

the federation president sits in france but the federation is not french

when starfleet was chartered the political entity known as america did not exist, presumably all of earth was united in one political entity. UK, france, germany, china all of them were geographical regions and not political entities. so starfleet could not be american, just as it could not be of any other nation. First it was Earth starfleet, then later federation starfleet.

Interesting how the ships are called U.S.S. , NOT RMS, OR HMS. I wonder how it would sound if you called the Enterprise, HMS Enterprise?

Ok im done being nice... yes my last post to you were actually me being nice but you really are retarded do you actually think that the USS stand for united states ship or some crap like that?

It stands for United Star ship or United Space Ship.

I believe in Kirks day it stood for United Star Ship and was later changed to United Space Ship.

Take your ignorance else where you moron.

USS is an abbreviation, which is not a nation specific feature.

The SS used by Federation citizans also refers to the Nazi Secret Police, are those citizens Nazi agents now?
