who said the romulans at narendra 3 were redshirts? they may have been the elite of the romulan empire. romulan picard (p'kard maybe?) and romulan data (d'ta maybe?) etc.
the ent c didnt kick the romulans teeth in, the ent c was destroyed with many crew captured. sounds like if anybody needs to visit their dentist, its the ent c.

Ent C was out numberd, out gunned, it destroyed several ships, and held the Roms off long enough that they were unable to fully wipe out the colony. Thats the whole point of their sacrifice, they fought like mad, did good despite having no chance, and the Klingons whose relations with the Federation were at a tipping point (the whole point of that episode, without the Ent Cs sacrifice the Klin and Fed would have ended up back in war (and with the way the Federation had stood down combat capacity they were slowly loosing come when the episode takes place)

Actually we have no idea if the Enterprice C destroyed ANYTHING at Narendra III. Garret said there were 3 warbirds and didnt indiacte at all that they destroyed a single one. They gave the Roms a good fight, but they never had a chance, the point was they died to defend a Klingon colony, but the fact that they lasted ANY real amount of time against 3 warbirds was a testimate to the ship design. I dont think the Romulans were "kicked in the teeth", but were likely suprised at the ship going up against those kind of odds, and the beating it took.

If nothign else, ANY federation presence suprised them.
Also, it was four warbirds.
I cant remember off hand the source info for the number of kills, and I havent seen the episode in a while, but Im pretty damn sure they got at least one kill.

The only place I know that included that battle aside from the series is the TOS novel, Vulcan's Heart.
The chance of those ships being novices is highly unlikely, they were Wabirds; the pride of the fleet. It would be like the Enterprise-D being captained by a novice.

all the canon evidence is noted on ma:
Battle of Narendra III - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki
there was no reference to romulan losses. so we cant say they destroyed any romulan ships.
do i think the ent c would have managed 1 kill? i'd like to hope it got 1. but there is no evidence in canon.

True, however I dont see the Klingons giving the Ent C that respect for faling to kill anything.
At least, they heavily damaged some of the ships or something I suppose.

From what I know of canon, it was the honorable sacrifice that impressed them.

to the klingons it was the ent c dying in battle that mattered. not how many kills they got.

You are correct it was 4, and 4 to 1 odds are the E-C didnt likely get a kill. And yes, it was all about the sacrifice, I mean the Klingons saw a federation ship jump in between them and a group of 4 warbirds, KNOWING they didnt have a chance in hell of winning, they could have just ran away but they didnt, something like that doesnt go unnoticed by the klingons.
