Maybe the scous could auto-level-up. For each 20% of the map revealed, every scout get's an additional bar, which means, all scouts (you certainly will not do it with all of them) could be upgraded to veteran then.

As the mods invented a technique to count ships, so a scout could probably count objects it discovers nd rank up by that.

Oh, as a scout's lifetime is still little short, so the probability to get a vetran low, it requires a lot of incompetence to let your opponent get one. Thus the "stupidity penalty" is quite relevant.

I personally would vote for an abilty to avoid fire for a certain amout of time. Something like a 60sec invulnerability. dexterity +250

Im curious though. if the scout is to advance in rank by virtue of number of enemies or area uncovered,. then once it did advance like that, destruction would be moot, since all a scout has to do is run and look from afar.
The rommies in this would have veterans off the bat by virtue of cloak and no chance of being hit.

the only reason our scouts get killed is cos we simply send them on their way and do not bother controlling them.. other than that they can pretty much escape.

Invulnerability on a scount for veteran i would not like.... maybe something like increased range of sight or tachyon pulse to scan an area for cloaked ships like the Sbase would be relevant IMHO  :sweatdrop:.

but the tachyon ability would need to be researched anyway for it to become available even for the veteran scout.....

OK, you're right about the enormous advantage to roms and klingons. I rather thought of venture and the A10. The cloaked scouts would not have a real advantage of invulnerability anyway. Fortunatly invulnerability on scouts would not unbalance the game, it's rather a use like the canaveral's probe, which is invulnerable all of it's lifetime ;-)

I personally would have designed the scout's upgrades small enough that their advantage is neglectable in contrast to other veteran vessels, so they would only be used, if there's nothing else to pad the veteran slots. IMO veteran scout's are rather for fun than for serious purposes.

I have a question: i don't suppose that you guys are getting rid of those uh-gly tri-pulse phaser graphics? those just reek of stock a2... no matter how well made.

Looks great as always.

Any chance to see Borg textures on all the ships in the near future? Those would really add to the atmosphere...

Why does everyone hound the Devs for the patch.  Just be greatful they're interactive in the community unlike a ton of mods out there.  For those of you who don't know how to program, it can be long and tedious....and that's before debugging begins....which is the hardest part, imo.

Yeah.  Coding can be like trying to write War&Peace...in consistant gibberish.  I haven't coded in about 13 years, but it's definately among the things I am least interested in doing anymore.

I have the utmost gratitude for those who are willing and interested in taking on that Cthulian task of madness for us.
