That's not what the hints given by the thread implies, mentioning something new for them by a distorted picture of the new ship.

I am working in Maya 2011, which is free for students. Unfortunately there is no mel script to export models as a SOD. I have thought about writing one, but I have not had time for it. When I do, I'll release it.
TChapman500 wrote:Where do you get those background images? And how do you get them to be the exact size you want them to be? Very impressive! Although, I think the number of polygons is a bit high. How many polygons are on that ship?
I get my reference images from ex-astris-scientia.com which is a great place to get images of Star Trek Ships. She weighs in at around 6000 polygons, which is not bad for a rare warp-in ship.
Dircome wrote:Max/Maya are soooooo much easier to work in.I would search the net but it could have been from a actual physical model as well. And if you watch the video near the end when hes modeling the nacelles you will see that the top view and the side view are different. So reference images are not perfect.Yes it is unless you are a student and in that case its free.
One final question is how long did it take you to make that whenever im modeling it takes me forever just to do anything. I think im too much of a perfectionist to really be a good modeler maybe i should take a class in it.
I actually had to do a lot of rescaling to get the images to match up as much as possible, which I had skipped over in the beginning as it is really boring. There was also a lot of give and take between looking at the physical model they had in the show and the images available.
This modeling session took about 3-4 hours. That is just modeling, without unwrapping or texturing. What you see in the video is about 10x the actual speed of the model. You can always make a model better, but at some point you have to stop and move on, otherwise you'll never get anything else done.

Fleet Operations is far more forgiving to polygone counts compared to plain armada, 6k is nothing to worry about
All new models will feature higher poly counts

@Tyler - Yeah. One Romulan ship. When the Fed have gotten things like the Nova, Synergy (partly, more to come), PD Phaser, plus other things; and now the Centaur. All the Rommies have got are a new crappy turret system. Ohwell. =/

I'll correct the first part of the inconplete post "1 Romulan ship that we know about" Invalid complaint, as the work on the Romulans isn't finished and there are still many classified tasks we know nothing about.
They've said multiple times that synergy is a Federation-specific thing because the other races are getting an alternative more suitable to them. Invalid complaint as the Federation is only the first of the races, not the only race, to get an advanced feature.
Most importantly, most races haven't been redone yet. You're complaining about problems that only exist in your mind. You have to be patient and just accept that they're more vocal about Fed updates.

The Centaur is one of my favourites (sometimes the good things are the things you didn't see often) and this model is the best take on it I saw anywhere by now.

This is epic news indeed... I really look forward to that Mel script. I've had 3DS and Maya 2010 and just upgraded to 2011 a few days ago so the timing is quite nice. I've been forced to use 3DS and export my models as Autodesk 3DS, import those to MS3D, then do all the hardpoints, and finally export to an SOD. Doing it all in Maya will be quite awesome.

As a student, how would I get my hands on a copy of it?
