UPDATE

I am currently about halfway done with this mod, all that remain are the Son'a and my new Borg avatar. After seeing the Noxter announcement today I was motivated to show some update on this. I most likely will not release this until the next patch has been finished. Though it is most likely not the case, the new UI might effect things in this mod and I'd rather release it after to be safe. This mod is incomplete, and my ideas for ship abilities are incomplete as well. I'd love to hear the community's suggestions before I finish work on this mod.

Section 31
Image
Gives access to:
- Oberth Class Science Vessel (replaces Venture class scout)
- Centaur Class Cruiser

Hero Ship:
- Shadow Ops Constitution Class

Give the following benefits:
- Excelsiors and Ambassadors can be constructed at the Antares yard
- Starfleet Command can be constructed after Antares yard is completed
- Eraudi shipyard cannot be constructed

Advantages
: Early game intelligence of map, rushes, and fast Destroyer/ Cruiser construction
Disadvantages: No Battleships or significant late-game strength

Info
: Section 31 focuses more on the use of smaller, older vessels rather then larger and more recent battleships. As such they are not capable of constructing the Eraudi yard. This obvious disadvantage is offset by the fact that they can build smaller ships faster and can devote less resources to research and instead focus on massing a larger fleet. In addition they are able to warp in vessels sooner then the other two Federation Avatars, making Section 31 a tempting choice for players who like to 'rush'.

Unique Ships/Stations: The first of Section 31's unique ship/stations is a replacement for the Venture class scout: Section 31 utilizes the Oberth class Science Vessel armed with a phase cloak. Since Section 31 operates outside of the Federation the use of this technology has gone largely unnoticed. The second of Section 31's unique unique ship/stations is the Centaur class cruiser, which I decided to add in through popular demand. While this ship is an effective early cruiser, it's notable feature is it's ability to disguise itself as an enemy ship. It works marvelously against the AI, and even human players who are not paying attention tend to be fooled by the sudden increase in friendly vessels parked in their base. Since Section 31 does not have a central commanding figure, their mysterious hero character is nameless. He or she commands a heavily modified Constitution class vessel, appropriated named the Shadow Ops. I have not decided on all it's abilities yet.

Why I chose Section 31: I read a forum post awhile back proposing the idea of using Section 31. I was really intrigued by the idea and thought it would be fun to play as a nasty and devious Federation commander for a change.

Toral
Image
Gives access to:
- Fighter Craft
- Fighter Craft Hangar

Hero Ship:
- Toral's Negh'Var fighter carrier

Give the following benefits:
- Negh'var Battleships can launch fighter craft.
- Research is more centralized, Toral only has two research stations.
- Undecided

Advantages: Annoying pester fire from fightercraft makes it hard to fend off attacks, efficient research
Disadvantages: Lack of many specialized Klingon vessels.

Info
: With the House of Duras effectively in ruins, Toral has very limited resources at his disposal. With access to small supplies of Dilithium, Toral has focused on the heavy use of fighter craft. Cheap and very easy to produce, massive swarms of these small craft have served him well as fair substitutes to fleets of battleships. In addition Toral's lack of connections has forced him to make his research infrastructure more efficient. Players who tired of the cluster of Klingon research stations will feel more at home with Toral.

Unique Ships/ Stations
: Toral's unique ship is the tiny fighter craft. while alone this insignificant ship is no match for anything, Toral can operate up to 36 of these small craft at any given time. Because of their small size most weapons have a tough time hitting them, so even though they are small they have a high survivability rate when in numbers. Toral's second unique unit is a large fighter base: essentially a giant well armed turret that launches his fighter craft. For Toral's hero ship, he himself arrives in a Negh'var armed with a fighter craft deployment system.

Why I chose Toral: I can't resist including this annoying selfish jerk. He's just such awesome character to me, both in the show and with his attempt to regain the Empire in Armada 1. While he's abandoned his dominating ways, Toral is still vying for power and honor. I thought it would be interesting to include a side that made good use of fighter craft, and Toral having limited access to the Empires resources seemed a perfect candidate.

Admiral Sela
Image
Gives access to:
- S’Faret Warbird (replaces Noxeran Warbird)
- Shadow Wing Battleship (Replaces Tavara Warbird)

Hero Ship:
- Admiral Sela's Shadow Wing Battleship

Give the following benefits:
- Pulse based weapon fire more rapidly, notably on turrets.
- D'deridex Warbird does not require Upgrade Facility to build.
- Undecided.

Advantages
: Strong late game battleships with devastating forward fire pulse based weapons.
Disadvantages: Effective fire ruined if attacked from all sides, poor early game strength.

Info: Admiral Sela has a more hands on approach to dealing with her enemies. She prefers bigger and more daunting ships under her command to deal with her foes. When playing as Sela it's often best to rush to get a Warbird yard out, she can churn the D'deridex out immediately after completion unlike the other two Romulan avatars. Given time, Sela can also construct a Shadow Wing Battleship. This huge vessel has devastating forward fire, though attacking it from all sides can leave it at a major disadvantage.

Unique Ships/ Stations: Sela's first unique unit is the S'feret Warbird, which replaces the Noxeran. While it is not as well armed as the Noxeran, it is faster and has much a much more deadly forward arc. A pair of these ships are perfect for quick charges; once complete it's best to pull them out while your ships that have better fire arcs sweep in, then repeat. Sela's second unique unit is the massive Shadow Wing Battleship. This behemoth has ridiculous forward fire potential, and anything stuck in front of it is bombarded with a rapid fire hail of disruptor blasts. If you are caught in front of this ship quickly move your fleets to it's side and behind: the only effective way to bring the Shadow Wing down is from the rear. Admiral Sela as a hero comes onto the battlefield in her personal Shadow Wing Battleship. It lacks the forward punch the baseline Shadow Wing's have, but it is armed with rear facing weapons to help counterbalance the change.

Why I chose Sela: Sela is simply my favorite Star Trek character in the whole series (next to Thot Gor of course...). Her inclusion in Armada 1 was simply amazing and I think it would be awesome for her to appear as an avatar (or at least a cameo) in Fleet Ops.

Son'a Allies
Image
Gives access to:
- Son'a Interceptor
- Son'a Battlecruiser

Hero Ship:
- Undecided

Give the following benefits:
- Ketrecel White facilities are cheaper to produce.
- All Research costs are slightly reduced.
- Supply Ships can carry double the supply hold limit

Advantages
: Rapid supply distribution, Son'a ships serve as good meatshields
Disadvantages: Lack of heavy firepower

Info: The Son'a were supporters of the Dominion, even after the official war ended. They were largely responsible for aiding in the production of Ketrecel white and offering rapid supply delivery to Dominion bases. This is reflected in their gameplay strategy, as the Son'a can harvest, deliver, and process the dreaded Supply resource much quicker than any other race.

Unique Ships/ Stations: The first of the Son'a unique units is the Interceptor. They are fast and rather annoying, and while they can't dish out as much damage as other Dominion ships, they are far better at surviving. The second of the Son'a unique units is the Battlecruiser. It's not as powerful as other Dominion capital ships, but Son'a Battlecruisers have much stronger hulls and a higher survivability rate. It's always a good idea to have a fleet of Son's ships lead a charge to soak up damage, and then before they take serious casualties pull them back as the main firepower of your Dominion ships enter the fray. I am undecided on a Son'a hero ship, though it most likely will be an original character since the Son's do not have any noteworthy people alive during the time of FO (not that I am aware of anyway).

Why I chose the Son'a: I really wanted to have the Cardassians as an Avatar, but based on the timeline of FO the Cardassians have kicked the Dominion out. So I settled for the next best thing, the Son'a. I honestly do not like the Son'a as a race, but their boomerang and horseshoe ships look really awesome.

Diversity
Image
Gives access to:
- Assimilation Post
- Subspecies Manufacturing Node (replaces Collective Uplink)

Hero Ship:
- Borg Queen's Diamond

Give the following benefits:
- Collective Connection income rate increased
- Ships of all races can be constructed
- Undecided

Advantages: All the advantages of chosen race
Disadvantage: All the disadvantages of chosen race

Info: Tapping into the potential of all the countless races the Borg have assimilated, the Collective finally takes advantage of all the tactics used by their victims. The Diversity avatar can theoretically produce ships of all the playable races, as well as NPC races once they've been added in. Using a combination of tactics from all races gives the Borg huge tactical flexibility.

Unique Ships/ Stations: Assimilation posts serve as the first unique unit and are unmanned platforms that serve as turrets with auto assimilation beams. Ships wandering too close will begin to have their crew drained by the weapon. Unlike the Assimilation beams on ships, this particular one lasts much longer. The second unique unit available to the Diversity avatar is the Subspecies Manufacturing Node. Once constructed, the collective can divert resources and select a species from the list. The yard will be upgraded with the necessary materials needed to construct ships of that species. As of now they will be able to build Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Dominion, Cardassian, Son'a, and Breen ships, though in the future I may update and add more selectable races. The hero ship available to the Diversity avatar is the same for the other two Borg avatars: the Queen. The Borg Queen herself is assembled on the field of battle to bend the will of individuals to the collective. Her specialized Diamond can be armed to the teeth with weapons, or modified to rapidly assimilate the crews of whatever vessel happens to be unlucky enough to come into her sights. Unlike the heroes of the other races, the Queen's death is not permanent and she can continually be reassembled should she die in battle.

Why I chose the Diversity avatar: I'm sick of every Borg drone being humanoid. The Borg have assimilated thousands of races... so where's all the insectoid Borg? All the reptilian Borg? The collective is on a quest for perfection, and Insects by far are more perfectly adapted to advancement then humanoid mammals. Since this can't really be represented in Armada, I tried to settle for the next best thing: being able to construct a huge wealth of ships from the countless races the Collective has assimilated. Of course you'll not be able to build all types of ships all at once, but being able to mix and match the best all the races have to offer seems like something the Borg would evolve to.

*jawdrop* looks like we won't have to wait quite so long for those third avatars. Everything looks good except for 2 points:
1. you got the S'Faret backwards in the romulan avatar pic (unless you flipped the model front to back)
2. The borg use directives as avatars, and besides the generally accepted idea for the borg avatar is Obliterate, focusing on destruction of any non-assimilated vessels.

the rest though? :woot: :woot: :woot:

William Sadler still looks funny like that.
I would so play Sec31. The others are cool, too.

Nice choice with this one, this idea can be brutal. I've been using them in stock for years and lost entire fleets to them.

nice images and some interessting ideas.

The Son'a and Sela are on todo for appearance in Fleet Operations too :)

There are some links between Section 31 and Admiral Jane Risner, but nothing thats official or free of doubt. Section 31 plays no major role in the Fleet Operations storyline, and therefore won't be honored with an own Avatar any time soon.

By the way, TaQ'roja is alrady part of the House of Duras and fighs to reclaim her - at least in her eyes - earned seat in the Klingon High Council. However born on a Ciadan ship and with her complete youth spent as an orion pirate, not even knowing of her roots, shes not the average Klingon, and Toral might still have supporters.

That right there is what I was going for... maybe a 4th or 5th in the distant future of Fleet Operations. Hmmmm...... I wish someone could come up with a pic that would correspond with the guy. Don't pity me guys, I just lost another contest... plus I can't make Adm pics myself... so I had no chance. -_- I'll enjoy the new advatarrs though! :) Just I was kinda hoping at least one idea of mine would be somewhere in FO... Oh well, I guess there are too many people at the FO gambling table that have their Aces.
