would be great if you had a map with red nebula's and the enemy had a base behind it, very handy for a deadly quick strike with intrepids

or you could extend the range of tricolbolt torps, and then use probes to scout out targets and just pummel the enemy base, and when the defenders got through the nebula to attack your intrepids, your akiras rip them to steaming bitz.

akiras are powerfully armed but they are not indestructable themselves, they were designed before the ablative armour was made so they only have that high density crap.

i was referring to the fact that they would go through the red nebula and be crippled by the time they came out, and just incase have a battlegroup in-between the entrance to the enemy base and the intrepids. Or you might find yourself in a little trouble. And you could have the intrepids pommeling the group of defenders in a fire-support role too. Just an after thought.

well if you all remember the intrepids were able to fly through nebulaus without damage. so mayby they should be invulnerable(or at lest slow rate of damage) to the red nebulaus

in his imagination? because why would only a intrep be invounerable to nebulas and not the whole federation fleet? doesn't make any sence

does he mean the plasma streams in the badlands? because voyage is the only federation ship that is small enough and has long enough legs to navigate there.

there are plenty of other fed ships small enough to navigate it: saber, norway, steamrunner & er defiant ( which are notoriously short range).

As for the Akira' Strenth they are being taken out all the time in battle scens, but it does take a bit so I would say not a battleship, but atleast toe to toe with The klingon Vorcha

dont remember too many akiras being destroyed. in fact i dont recall seeing even 1 getting destroyed in the first contact battle.

so lets see i
battle to retake the Chin toka system (ds9 episode with the cardy plasma defense turrents) i saw one adrift but not necessarily destroyed, if it doesn't blow up i guess you have to assume its salvageable. (it had a few holes in it but it didn't look all that bad TBH)

you see them linning up with the rest of the fed fleet, in the battle to retake DS9 (episode where only defiant punches through the dominion lines). you see glimpses of them in the battle, but not actually of any of them blowing up, (unlike most of the other ship classes). in fact the only other class of ship in that battle i didn't see blow up either was the galaxy.

well thats all i can think of (baring "message in a bottle" which we all know the akira in that survived)

so name a few episodes where you see an akira blow up or CLEARLY beyond salvage.

so i haven't seen the norway been blown up in that battle or the intrepid or a steamrunner or..... a soyuz or a freedom class or a yeager , ow wait they weren't in it. but would you imagine a 4 year long war with no destroyed akira's while federation ships where destroyed almost all the time and had even troubles producing
