The defiants are the same as the original prototype, with the exception of having the modifications seen done to the defiant in the mirror universe and the valiant, to fix the structual integrity field and warp drive.

well baron is right, we can't judge all defiants by the uss defiant, but even if we take away 25% of the uss defiant's power, we still come way short of the power of a defiant class starship in FO

Not really :hmmm:

Remember that FO is set after the Dominion war. So i would expect that the Federation has studied the engagements during the war and used that data to iron out the "teething problems" of the Defaint, hence why it is so powerfull in FO.

when you think about it the defiant isn't really that powerfull in fo. :hmmm:
sure it has more hull points than a sovie  but it has quite weak shields, saying that on a scale compared to the other ships i think the shield points are about right. the pulse phasers although damaging fire once in a blue moon :schmoll: i thought the pulse phasers were supposed to be rapid firing :guns: (see it that way on the show anyway).

yes indeed, but if you have 8 defiants together they fire so fast you don't ever hear a single burst, just a combined crushing sound, but still i guess the defiant should have at least 0,5 secs faster reload

but the whole point in this mod was to make it different from the stock game where everyone would just build about fifty of a single class and annililate someone else. :hmmm: by making the individual ships a lot tougher than they are on v2 you wouldn't need ship classes grouped together in batteries (like it or not thats what you were suggesting)

heard that one problem arising from the use of the pulse phaser was overheating, hmmm perhaps it could be made so that pulse phasers shoot in 3 round bursts then need a cool down period.

oh yeah happy 18th dude :pimp: :wheelchair:

thnx :) yeah, basicly you are right, and the game is already trying to go into the direction , that individual ships become more important, but i guess it will always remain a game in which you will need at least 20 ships if you want to destroy your opponent

And so i should stay. I mean, look at modern naval tactics. We didn't win World War two with a single macho battleship, we won it through cooperation between ship, air and ground support.

If you only needed one ship to win the war, then FO would be no different from A2.

You'll need a fleet of different types in order to win in FO. Your front-line fleet needs to be able to take on any type of foe (which means a mix between capital killers like Sovereigns and strike craft killers like Defiants, with a few in-betweens for a backbone), and even while your main force is fighting, you'll always need the rearguard to defend the supplies, reserve forces to replace losses, and the outposts to pull back crippled starships and reapir them quickly, just like real war.

perhaps because of the confusion surrounding the defiant, it should be made a special ship (credit needing) replace the steamrunner, that should have phasers & photons as standard anyway not tricobalt torps

T-man thats not what was meant, of course your going to need more than 1 ship (or even 1 fleet for that matter) to win a war. what was meant was that to make certain ships worthwhile you would have to build entire fleets composed entirely of that type. so far there is little alternative :(

A bunch of defiants together will kill just abiut any ship qucikly. I used to use that to take out warbirds boomb boomb BOOMB!!!

Well of course they would kill any ship within moments, but we forget that it is a battleship so it SHOULD be like that. I mean it is the same thing if u have a group of sovies, everything dies within moments, so its the same with defiants :P

true nuf, but defiants are smaller.

i dont believe that the defiant should be counted as a battle ship... its far too small its smaller than a saber :o all of the other battle ships have something in common other than firepower.. they are all pretty damn big. :tank: i think the defiant should be a destroyer (credit hogging)

on a side note why was the nebula given a pulse phaser?

I belive it fires from the weapon pod wich may have a pulse phaser in the fleet ops realm.
