Well if one part is a light year away from the others...

I don't think there are weapons that fire that far in the Dominion...

lol what?? they will fire on any attacking enemy ships in the immediate vicinity and when the order for them to join has been given, this order can be relayed via sub space if a part is a light year away and parts meet at designated point and..merge....mmmm merge!

I don't think you get what i'm saying, Dreadnought parts sitting all around space doesn't make sense when the ship is built at a shipyard anyway, with prefabricated parts. Things like Cubes, when they make larger ones, get a bunch of smaller ones together and don't need the help of a shipyard.

Your moms! Sorry, just felt like I had to get into the spirit of things here. Actually I think you're both right, but about different things. Frodo is trying to figure out how it would work in a game, and Praetor is concerned with "real life" as it were. Two different things here.

Actually I prefer the "in game" idea of completely defenseless, shieldless chunks that move VERY slowly, just as a balancing tactic considering this thing is likely more powerful than a tavara. Just my 2 cents.

Well if one part is a light year away from the others...

"ingame" you cant really measure distances as lightyears, because inside your base, you will be able to transfer these pieces to common ground (i.e. where you plan to fuse them) say halfway between the shipyards, within a few seconds (certainly no longer than 15-20). if it is taking longer than that you should really be thinking about building your shipyards a little closer together.

i agree with what ryan and coolhandab just said and what i didn't get PD, was when you said "if 1 part is a light year away.." i said "sub space communication" you said "i don't think the dom have weapons that fire that far" our survey said "huh?!" i was suggesting the computers of each part would communicate with each other when prompted to fuse togather

I'm not talking about that, someone said that these pieces of ship could defend themself, and of course if only one part contains the power core then that would be the only part with power enough to do so. The others would be running off backup generators.

Again it's alot less of a hassle to have this thing build in a shipyard like the Dominion did it.

ah i assumed each part would have a power core, anyway u say the dominion have these straight off the line? stick with what that then if its quicker or do parts if there's a balance issue

I think there would be a balance problem anyway with a few mile long ship.

the cube is 3km on a side, and the game is balanced fine

Ummm, how do you know if the Dread is balanced if it isn't even in the game?

what i'm saying is there is a cube in the game, that is a bigger ship, so balancing won't be a problem over size. given time it can be done, and done well
