I'd like to see the 4.5 km version, but it would not work in FO at all, it'd be like a hero supership. Maybe someday in single player, or even an NPC placeable map object. But I agree the approx 1.5 km version would be fine, and the Dominion certainly deserves something to stand up against sovvies, cehelar and tavara warbirds, etc.

How the **** can you have 3 pieces of a single ship flying around?

its not that hard to grasp
& anyway cos they are so weak by themselves, ie. no weapons weak shields, you not gonna want to have them flying around the map anyway
you will want to fuse them asap,
think what you want
i reckon this would make it more cannon.

Yah each one of them very weak and has only thrusters to manuer itself into possition. So not that hard to do actually

Then why not just build the ship itself the first time is the question. It's like throwing ship parts into battle, most of them wouldn't have propusion, many without power...

the reason the dominion build their ships this way is because they can concentrate on building a specific module(part) of a ship in one place, at the same time as building a different part elsewhere. Thus they can churn out more of these parts, than ships, when you add the parts together you get more ships. in case you've missed the point (again
) in this, it is all about making more ships in the same amount of time.
i.e.
dominion = 100 ships per year (built in parts)
starfleet = 85 ships per year (entire vessel built at 1 facility)
(before you say anything i know those figures are exagerated they are just an example of the difference in ship building technique)

This really makes lots of good sense. In the Real World the US Navy is doing this too, ships are built out of 500 ton chunks, often coming from different shipyards by ferry to be assembled somewhere else. Much faster and more efficient than building the whole thing from the keel up.

i'm not saying the pieces would be able to fire, or that they would be useful at all until you put them together, i'm just saying you could have parts that don't shot, have no or only limited shields, and what ever until you "fuse" them into a ship, the parts only determine what your new dread's abilities will be. are you still not getting me or is it the other way around?

edit
oh, will there be a new sound for this, because the cube fusion sounds would be totally wrong for such an operation.

Pretty much ALL ships have prefab parts delivered instead of being handbuilt...I don't see why the dread is special...

I made the experience in the dominion mod for a2 that dreadnoughts are just too big and too strong and too massive and.... it simply doesnt fit to a2 / FO . Even if it was well balanced it would be too ...massive...i cant express myself...theres just a bad feeling when i think of a dreadnought in FO.

borg have the fusion cube, thats their dreadnaught & that ain't even a real design, so why shouldn't the dominion get one. particully one that is cannon to the shows
@PD the idea for this is that entire sections of the ship are built at different places, not just a few componants here & there. these pieces will account for 1/4 or even 1/3 of the entire ship (depending on how many pieces it is split between)
so there

I don't know what to think of the idea. I can see how it may be good, but I also see what disadvantage it'd be to the player...

@PD, then whats your problem with it?
for the feds at least, it says that their ships are NOT built like that (componants yes but not entire sections) so there is a difference. having this for all dominion ships would be a pain in the neck, so thats why the dreadnaught would be treated specially. (it is the biggest dominion ship afterall
