i know Baron made a topic about it (yes i did search), but he was just requesting that it be put in. So here is my idea,
i remember reading somewhere that the dominion build their large ships in pieces and then assemble them somewhere else. so for the dreadnaught (when it gets put in) can it be made it pieces at different shipyards and then fused (like FCube).

the pieces themselves would be defenceless (no weapons, light shields) so any halfhearted attack may well pick off a couple of them. that would be its weakness, the "fused" dreadnaught would be as strong as you wish to make it (whatever was planed for it)

Excellent idea, it seems like the biggest ship that should be built in one piece from one yard would be around a kilometer long, slightly bigger than a sovereign. The dominion battleship and dreadnought are both far larger than this.

good idea i like it but it could be at a disadvantage at some stage during construction :omg:

well it does have to have a weakness right, kill it when it most vulnerable

Its an EXCELENT IDEA ;)

And actually all dominion ships are made from modules, but to apply this to every ship would be a great disadvantage for a dominion player, but for a ship this size, I give my greatest support to this idea

(Like u thought I wouldnt ;) :P )

I'll take the dommy dready, but I don't think it should be built in pieces, because the shipyards already do that.

but what if the shipyards were specalized to increase production speed (this doesn't mean they have to be made fast just that it would be less fast otherwise)

don't you think fiddling with 3 or 4 expensive pieces dreadnought wouldn't be dangerous and stressful ;) how much would you invest and how strong should that vessel be then? it's quite the same problem here as with a 'fusion cube' from armada 2.

this would actuly be a good idea to have in a campign you could be ona mission do attack domion and its easy to win buy cutting off a shipyard that makes parts

yes, right, it would be a nice idea for a campain *noted* but fleet operations still has multiplayer priority

are there going to be various pieces that can be placed into each "slot" in the superstructure, so you could have like 30 different dread designs in a fleet or something (if you can even build that many dreads in a single game).

IE

slot one has 4 models, one with only beam weapons, one with 2 beams 4 torpedoes, one with only torpedoes, and one with the breen weapon.

slot 2 and 3 have 3 models

heavyer armor + 4 beam weaons, normal armor + 6 beam weapons, and lighter armor with 8 beamweapons

slots 4 5 and 6 have 3 models

larger engines + 6 beam weapons, normal engines with 2 torpedoes + 4 beam weapons, smaller engines with 4 or 6 torpedoes +2 beam weapons ect.

so like this nose = 1
midsection = 2 + 3
rear engine = 4 + 5 + 6

see what i mean?

@Doca, its the same with the fusion on FO ;) , i think this would be cool. and 3 or 4 pieces of dreadnaught are a lot easier to handle than 8 pieces of scout cube :D .
for the credit cost, was thinking about dividing up the total amount that the dreadnaught would cost between the pieces so it doesn't screw up your plans & you end up with pieces of dreadnaught that can't be assembled (this wasy while its fusing the game won't have to add or take credits away from you). :)

@casper  thats .... complicated. for my idea the pieces themselves are practically helpless, you'll have to guard them with other ships, since they should have no weapons(not activated yet), and minimal shields. i dunno maybe the same shield strength as the average destroyer. with all those numbers i think you wanna turn it into a god ship  .

It should be made from 3 parts, but concerning the size and strenght, there are 3 different sizes shown in DS9, one in Valiant then another in Sacrifice of Angels(I think) and in the final episode. But only the first one is described at least a little. 2 times as long as Galaxy and 3 times as strong, that would fit without trouble in FO and it wouldnt be unbalanced, you would just have to make it cost enough ;)
About the other 2 sizes, the one in the last episode is trully a monster(4500m long) so that would have to be very very very strong. Its up to you to decide which one to take ;)But it should DEFENTELY be awailable to a dominion player, remember this vessle was created speciffically for alpha quadrant to counter alpha races battleships so it deserves to have a role in FO :)
