Crates!!!!

Does anyone remember the crates in C&C games??

well seeing as Star Trek is about exploring, i think random crates or 'anomalies' in space would add that cool wild card to the game. Or that table turner where someone not doin to well gets a welcome break or topples a powerful player.
some things that could happen.

1. Random amount of resources (that include supply)
2. Random Ship (race specific or not)
3. Random ship jump (puts your ship randomly on the map)
4. Damages a subsustem
5. Destroys a ship
6. Reveals ships/station locations.
7. Spawns a Random NPC that is neutral, allied or hostile
8. Causes your ship to be revealed to the enemy.
9. Drains a random amount of resources (not to much).
10. Removes FOW but leaves shroud
11. Spawns a ship that can only be gotten with crates (like a future timeline ship)
12. Ranks up a ship
13. Adds 1-5 defence or attack or system value.
14. BORG ONLY, deducts a random amount of priority
15. FED ONLY, disables the SFC for a random amount of time
16. KLINGON ONLY, slows down build speed
17. DOM ONLY, Disables Breen ships in the build que for a random time
18. ROM ONLY, Disables the engines of the Tavara for a random time.

19. Instantly repairs and rechrges shields of the ship that finds the crate.

Definately a simple but brilliant idea... I'm all for this in multiplayer.

20. Spawns a species 9341 mother aomeba to annoy everyone on the map... (god I loved those giant space germs from A1)

Yeah it would add to a multiplayer game no end. A powerful player suddenly has all his ships revealed or loses resources. Or a weaker player is blessed with a powerful ship etc. i like the idea of a space entity. mabye the crystiline entity could make an appearence :D

I love the crates from C&C, though I often got bad stuff.

Another idea could be; it creates a large, permanant Black hole that destroys everything in the area.

The Future ship idea is good, it means I could finally get the Premonition Class in-game (though it needs a bit of a touch up, maybe looking like this; http://armada2.filefront.com/screenshots/File/33470/1).

yeah thats the future ship idea.

a permanant black hole would mabye be a prob with ai pathfinding, a tempory one that pulled all nearby ships into it would be cool tho :D

23. drains all special power out of the ship

24. Creates an ion storm (same thing as the the Klingon's larger science ship (can't remember the name) uses).

25: Creates a (temporary?) random nebula in a radius centred on the crate.

26: Spawns a derelict ship of a random type (obviously there'd have to be limits... a cube'd be mighty unbalacing).

i, personally would like to see black holes reintroduced into the game.. but not as that silly cake funnel.  i wonder if the team can use the new graphics mechanics to improve visuals greatly.  (i also wonder if you could play with the warp stretch effect to add a dramatic element to the ship being pulled in)  :hmmm: :unsure: :unsure:

27. Scripted Amoeba-like creatures that doublicate every 5 minutes in their habitate. If you wait too long this could turn into a nearly invulnurable organic barrier. They werent able to move they'd just live there at their spots like bacteria without tail and procreat.

28. Comet that appears at one edge of the map and destroys everything in its way then disappearing on the other side.

29. Space-Time Rift that releases a ship from future. When captured and decommissioned you gain a unique technology like doubled hull strength for all ships.... I just say Xentronium Armor!!! Yay! :D

You mean black holes that actually pull in and destroy ships? Stock ones never would in my game. Even without engines.

30. Spawns a large explosion that sends stellar debis out in all directions (mabye 2- 4 pieces) that destroy anything they touch but can be destoyed, they move slowly.
