The values aren't everything. There is also some other magic involved, Intrepids' torpedoes hit small sized targets only 60% of the time, so they deal only 60% of the damage with the torpedoes.

That's why I mentioned the damage reduction in my post.

According to the 'Modder's Toolbox' Battle calculator, an Intrepid should win a 1-on-1 without even losing shields. 11 Intrepids should beat a force of Monsoons with only 3 more in their number (specials not included).

I misread.  I thought the Monsson took 10% less damage from short-ranged vessels.  It dishes out 10% less damage to short-ranged vessels instead.  Misread the guide and then wondered why the Monsoons kept loosing.

That gives the Intrepids a 33 Offensive advantage and the Monsoons a 32 Defensive advantage in an 11 Intrepid, 14 Monsoon battle.  Intrepids win!  They'll destroy about 5 Monsoons for every 3 Intrepids that are destroyed.

Well, if the Intrepids have tricobalt torpedoes and the Monsoons have proximity photons, then the Monsoons will win the battle.

And what does that have to do with the feds being underpowered?

Right now, I'm just looking at Fed vs Fed.  I'm not really trying to look at what advantages each faction has or doesn't have.

But saying you did a test doesn't really prove if a faction is overpowered because online it has more to do with micro then anything else and against the ai a few simple strategies will always work

The Intrepids win chance mostly depends on how lucky they are with their tricobalts.

If they land more hits, they may win.

The problem is the monsoons torps do good against short ranged craft. Personaly I think proximity photons should be redone to only work on smaller ships, not short ranged ones.

proximity torpedo doesnt disciminate based on weapons range. it works best against small ships.

proximity torp makes the monsoon very strong against intreps. intreps cant run away and repair as the mons will snipe them, but trico torp misses 40% of the time, so its harder to snipe the mons.

Its just a good counter to the intrepids

If neither have specials, the Intrepids win an average fight. Photons have higher accuracy than Tricobalts.

The Monsoon torp shouldn't as effective as the Intrepids photons due to the rather low rate of fire.

the monsoon torp always hits and actually lets u get kills. any good player will micro a monsoon away before it dies, and trico will be lucky to kill any mons, but the proximity torp will prevent any intreps from escaping.

Except Photons are not Tricobalts.

Well this makes sense now at least:  Feds at underpowered because they're not good enough against themselves!  :woot:  Finally!  We've reached our destination!  B)

Wrong!

Now it's time to test the Federation against the other factions!
