I was able to solve my problem of not being able to start Fleet Operations by stopping steam. Now that steam is deinstalled I can play FO again.

Greetings everyone!
Before anything else, I'd like to say that this mod is by far the best ever made
and that it truly works wonders in bringing the classic Armada 2 into the modern era.
After playing and enjoying version 3.0, I started encountering a problem that apparently begun with the 3.0.5 update and continues on version 3.0.6. Everytime I start the game, I get an exception access violation error just like Wundai described. It doesn't happen all the time but only when I replace the armada2.exe file with a cracked one (problem with CD
). After trying several different cracks and failing, I attempted to get around it by downloading Armada 2, placing it's files into another CD and using it as a replacement. Even though I managed to install and even play the stock Armada 2 without problems using the replacement CD, FleetOps doesn't seem to recognize it and always displays the message "You need your own CD to play" when I attempt to launch a game. This puzzels me
As an extra detail, I have successfully managed to play FleetOps 3.0.6 (with replaced armada2.exe) in my older Windows XP PC, while for a reason unknown to me, I have been unable to duplicate the feat in my new Windows Vista 32bit machine.
If anyone could give me an insight on how to solve this problem I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance.
P.S - Alucard09 mentioned that a program called Steam could be the cause of the FO problem. How do I know I have it installed? And if so, how do I remove it?

its a game thingie well i dont really know what it is... http://store.steampowered.com/ its on this page. Also i have steam and it doesnt give me any problems. Anyway Vista is written differently than xp so that could be why you dont see the same problem on both machines.

Then I guess steam isn't the problem. In the meantime, I've tried to install version 3.0.6 in another vista PC and got the same problem. So atleast I know that it is not a PC specific problem.

it's more like some kind of software specific problem. vista itself shouldn't be the issue. maybe something you have installed on both pc's?

For note, I have Steam, I am running Windows XP 32-bit, and I now have no issues with FleetOps (well, as long as I work around the long path bug and use my modified dll). For those of you getting the uxtheme.dll error, check my latest post in my problem thread for a fix (at least until the next version is out, which will hopefully be fixed and not require me to make a work-around again anyway). As I described in my problem thread, the problem is not in your uxtheme.dll file, but rather because the FleetOps hook dll calls a function that should never be called during library load time, else it can cause (as Microsoft themselves state) system instability at worst.

Interesting.
I will try to install the fix to see if it resolves my problem and I'll post again if it indeed does. Thanks for your help

Oh,
I assume you also put the fix in the Vanilla 3.0.7.?
Well in any way, it still gives the error after installing 3.0.7.
