How about reinstalling FO to a different folder, like
C:Program FilesActivisionStar Trek Armada II Fleet Operations 3
or
C:Program FilesActivisionFleetOps3
?

I have done that before and it works. You could try it, personally if you do, i would install it directly off the CD, it makes for a more clean installation.

i assume this issue is caused by some system files changed or outdated, i still don't have a working solution yet

Besides the Fleet Operations main folder where you installed it to, there also exists the configuration folder in your windows user profile
You can find your fleet operations settings folder under XP
C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataStar Trek Armada II Fleet Operations
or Vista
C:UsersAppDataRoamingStar Trek Armada II Fleet Operations

note that these folders may be hidden in the default configuration of Windows.

I'm curious: is this the "bug fix for very long PATH variables" todo item?
posted on April 25th, 2009, 9:17 am
actually no. the PATH variable thing usually only affects people who have a lot of software installed that added their path to windows' search path in order to guarantee quick access to these software. usually stuff like software development tools like visual studio but also other software that includes command line tools tend to do that. fleet operations also can handle a much more longer PATH variable than armada 2 stock did, however, there are still people out there (i actually do know only one) who are still affected by this bug.
about this bug here i know what causes the crash, but not why. the crashing part of the loader was actually 3rd party code to read or write the settings file which actually crashed on initialisation before it did anything. i guess it relies on some system component that is faulty on some systems, i just didn't have to figure out why someone else code is not working properly (and it's a whole lot of code), so i now replaced this whole component with an simpler implementation which should be error-free.

Hello all,

Just joined the forum, and ofcourse I wanted to say what a great mod this is ;)

Adding to that @DOCa Cola:

Would it be possible to release the fix for this problem on its own? Truth is I would really like to play the full version of Fleetops like many other who have this problem no doubt :) and a seperate fix wouldn't hurt anyone ;)

If not, is there a way we can fix this ourselves in our own versions of FO3?

welcome to the forums :)
it's is not possible to release a seperate fix, the changes are too big...
there has to be a way to fix this issue, but it's a system related error in system files or settings, which i don't know about. a fresh install of windows seems to fix this issue. it's nothing you can fix with the files in fleet operations you have.
i'd recommend to wait just a bit longer, 3.0.6 is currently in it's final stages of testing, then, i hope, it will fix this launch issue once and for all.

Sigh...
Okay, just downloaded Version 3.0.6. and still at clicking the "Star Trek Armada Fleet Operations.exe"

It gives me the "An error message occured in the application" message.

Beforehand I uninstalled everything of Fleetops, then installed this version but no change in the error at first sight.
Can/Shall I send a bug report somehow?
