I've got exactly the same problem as DatonKallandor...I always get the same error-message as it is shown in the screenshot of him...the patch did not solve that problem:(.and also I haven't got that folder you just mentioned:(...don't know what to do now:( :(

Since I'm stubborn, I've been trying to launch FO every now and then - and wierdly, it's started up and played flawlessly (until a reboot, then it's back to the old EOutofMemory) on two occasions. Note that when it works (which is sadly not every restart) it works no matter how many times I close and start the game - until the restart at which point its back to the gamble.

I started a topic on the same problem DatonKallandor:

Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - FO3 - Crash at startup

I got the same message essentially everytime I tried to play FO3. I reinstalled Armada 2 and FO3 at least 20 times in various ways trying to get the game to work properly. Sometimes it would work after fully reinstalling, most times it wouldn't.

I noticed that no files in the FO directory are listed as modified between a fresh install and one that crashes, so I'm guessing the problem is partially due to the dependent Windows dll files (as well as FleetOpsHook.dll)

I reformatted my computer today (I do it every 6-12 months), so I'll see if the error comes up again with a fresh install of Windows XP SP3

Yes, the game works after I formatted my HDD. I have not had the EOutofMemory crash once as yet  :woot:

I was getting another unrelated crash occuring when I had a large number of ships in game ("EAccessError" or something like that). The bug report highlighted EAX as the problem, so I disabled Hardware Audio Acceleration in game and now it seems to run OK (fingers crossed)

Obviously there are a few bugs to be sorted out for the next patch  :whistling:

Out of curiosity, does your game crash when there are a large number of ships in play? I no longer get the "outofmemory" launch error (since the format), but now I have an "EAccessError" issue  :pinch:

Best map to reproduce the error on seems to be NirvanaII with 4+ AI Hard players. Lots of resources available on that map and Hard AI produces lots of ships.

No, unfortunately it did not. I obviously needed to do a bit more playing with Hardware Audio Acceleration disabled to see that the crash and EAccessError still occurred  :(

Did you by any chance install AII in the same folder as FO?

Possibly try a fresh install, without installing AII at all? (maybe run one from an external hard drive just to see if that might be a problem?). I'm just guessing here, so hopefully one of these suggestions helps  :(
