These topic always make me laugh. your comparing fantasy space opera to space soap-opera, fantasy babble vs technobabble. Hey, I can move thing with the use of magic. well i can turn a rock into warpcore. tng onward has been awful with technobabble. ds9 is the exception and only one you can hope to compare to starwars. Even then, you might as well have a dragon destroying the enterprise. It would make more sense. Not to mention the only way to achieve gigawatt much less a terrawatt is to be a god like being and make a imaginary ships appear out of your arse. For star wars to exist in startrek universe you would have to scale down their weapons in magnitude of thousands, for star-trek increase them by magnitude of thousands. Picard looks surprise by several hundred gigawatt or what the fake vessel was packing in that one episode. It totally unheard of and theoretically impossible in startrek universe. In starwars everything is fantasy, so power amount, sky is the limit. Their ship go super saiyan. If startrek was to enter their broken universe they no longer have any limitation other then make it so. "4 billion terrawatt? wesley crusher make it so!"
Not to mention force powers would suddenly cease to work because they don't exist in are universe or else there would be force sensitive people walking around using the force for wank brakes. so the emperor becomes a useless old man. The same is true if enterprise end up in starwars cannon. You would find half of his crew is force sensitive and can move planets with power of their ego, alone. The point? isn't one sadly. it just that this debate needs more dragons and the us marines need to arrest the emperor for pirating videos off the internet

Why not ignore all the unscientific differences like the Force or Q and just combine the universes as they are? That is what I always envisioned.
There is no way to make the universes equal or compatible, so just match them up as they are. So what, there are Jedi and Sith in Star Wars? Their force abilities never allowed them to take command of enemy ships and throw a battle. Pretty much all the Jedi got slaughtered by soldiers with normal weapons... not sure why the Force is such a big deal here.

been through thousand of these debates. force always comes up. something along the lines flipping kirk's toupee using the force.
" That is what I always envisioned."
impossible, your comparing apple and oranges. you can only compare like objects. so space opera and space opera. these result are invalid and neither prove nor deny validity of whose better. fun to poke and stare but no results.

You are correct; these are two different versions of a wider genre. Science fiction and science fantasy; I have made that statement before. But that does not at all mean they cannot be compared.
Who was the greater athlete, Wayne Gretzky or Michael Jordan?
A perfectly debatable question despite the fact that they played two completely different sports. Perhaps there cannot be a clear "winner" because there is no way for them (their stats) to compete directly against each other. However, the topic can still be discussed intelligently with compelling arguments for each.
Apples and oranges can be compared. The real question is on what parameters you compare them.

Another big issue with comparing the two is the time difference. Star trek is on the leading edge, the very begging of exploration. Hence why it's alien and bizarre phenomenon of the weeks. The federation has been around a scant few hundred years. Now compare that to star wars which been around for 65000 years and has probed and prodded every inch of the starwars galaxy. I was going to say it was like sending in gang of wild west thieves into battle against modern us marines. But, in fact it's worse. It like asking Christopher Columbus to fight the modern us navy. My bet is on the 100,000 metric ton battleship not Columbus' sailing ship. I love star trek vs star wars mods, but people mod the hell out of the cannon to make it fair. I do love watching star destroyer fighting the enterprise. I just make enterprise doge the 400 hundred turbo lasers and photon torpedoes rip the hull in half. Is it possible? Hell no.
Babylon 5 is perfectly fair on the other hand. It only a few hundred years in the future appose to 65000 thousands. The weapons are comparable . Hell 90% percent earth ships don't even have artificial gravity and rely on rotating hulls. Speak of possible, the first ones are more in league with starwars. Thousand upon thousand of years old. There technology blows everything out of the water. The shadows could subjugate the starwars universe. They verbally got their buts kicked out our galaxy because of their godly feud between giants. It wasn't about annihilating, it was about furthering evolution of the ants. They could wiped the galaxy clean of all life, but they were bad parents not tyrants.
star trek is just wrong but there no stopping these debates. I really dont understand the appeal. Starwars: Technology? Not fun and not even similar. Captains? heroes on a epic scaled quest beyond common sense. real world issues? is planet blowing up weapon a real world issue? The closest we came to this in startrek is when kirk went looking for god.
so instead i want to know why people seek questions no one ever asked? why people debate what is clearly pointless? that is interesting!

Length of time an empire has been around is a moot point, and I don't recall in the movies it stating how old empire is. Given what we have seen on tv an the movie, I don't see how you can distinctly say its not possible for Star Trek tech to compete with Star Wars tech. If they can modify a photon torpedo to blow up a small planet, they could presumably take out a star destroyer with ease, if not the death star. On the note of the death star, whoo hoo, you have a giant waste of space station that can blow up planets. Star Trek has torpedos that collapse a star and destroy an entire solar system. Hell lets say the empire is in fact 65000 years old, by the time the federation hits the 29th century they have timeships that can routinely travel through time with ease. That's an empire that's only 700 years old that has mastered time travel. It seems that if the empire was 65000 years old, they are advancing at a snails pace compared to the federation, and while the empire does have hyperdrives, which are faster then warp drives, it seems likely that in the next couple decades in the ST universe that the federation will likely develop a QSD drive of some sort, that would rival, if not surpass hyperdrive.
Ironically you ask why people argue this, and you give the perfect example why with your post, because everyone has a different opinion on who would win and why. On a ship by ship basis, I don't think star wars can take on star trek ships, but others do, that's the fun of it. As long as you can be civil about it who cares? Its all just talk at the end of the day.

aih, it is all just talk and has no real baring on are lives. Borrow phrase from skyrin: it talking that rot. Borrow phrase from my father it talking that dribble.
My information of starwars galaxy is obvious. How you missed the fact that every day star trek is boldly going where no man has gone before while starwar is not boldly going somewhere everyone since before the prequel is going; is beyond me.
now i throw the book at you:
Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
now star wars:
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
a lesson in obvious
star wars has not discovered something new in god knows how long. When was the last time you heard a imperial go, "oh hey boss we discovered another planet with intelligent life. "Never!!
A long time ago(sounds like a long time ago?) in a galaxy far, far away....
despite my love for trek i have personal vendetta against startrek. All they ever do is go find stuff and preach the good book and high and mighty morals at stuff. Both cannon suck and best to keep the episode padding (all the technobable) along along way from any debate. God modded torpedoes are a big big no no. Speaking of facts, the fact that every episode of startrek lacks a tentacle monster in space handbook and Picard stuttering about like an idiot, tells me the federation hasn't a clue about what going on.
While starwars has not once had to wing a damn thing. The heros had too. How else does one stop a planet killer? Yet the federation runs into borg and acts surprised. I'm sorry starwars is way beyond old. The republic and been rebuilt at least twice in cannon and six time lose cannon. Including several major sith wars. After Return of the jedi it's rebuilt another six times. You can thank the yuuzhan vong for that.
Startrek as a whole is young and nave.

I understand your argument that the empire is way older then the federation and larger, this is not something I dispute. Im only saying that age of the respective empires in this case is irrelevant when comparing the technology. Besides hyperdrive tech, I don't see anything in star wars indicating a vast superiority over what is seen in star trek. And regardless if you don't like or agree with "godlike" modded torpedos, they do exist. You cant just ignore an aspect of one of the franchise's just because you don't agree with it.
And for lessons in obviousness, you obviously missed my point that the whole "long time ago in a galaxy far far away", and the fact that the federation is still exploring is irrelevant.

fine, god modded torpedoes? We got god modded magic that can crush planets and ships that can blow up suns. You aint going to win a god modded match against franchise that not only practically invented pulling things out their behinds but also wrote the manual on it. we have more plot devices than startrek has plot holes. I have yet to see your torpedo, the only thing that came close was genesis and that took billion of dollars in trek money and top scientist in the know universe. Photo torpedoes are so wank in the show that it impossible to tell how much damage they do. I have seen them cause no bigger explosion on the ground than howitzer and blow up entire shielded starship with a single shot. Their supposedly 64 megaton explosion which places their power at average size nuke. The same for example in bsg. If the die is cast is any example (those are plasma torpedoes not photons, which are stronger) they only destroyed the crust with that bombardment from the fleet, it makes them exactly comparable to a nuclear warhead. No amount of nukes can destroy a planet. Radiation will make the planet uninhabitable for like a bullion years but the planet is intact.
To make matter worse you got maybe one of your torpedoes in the entire franchise. Yeah blow up death-star and than get supper curb stomped because your ace is gone.
Further more, if the federation is so powerful you wouldn't have to resort to bajoran god to save their buts from the dominion. I'm sorry but how can you argue with your own cannon? It a fact, it's cannon , that federation would flat out lost the war 1000 to 1, if not for divine help. Don't like it, go tell them to remake DS9. The federation is in infant, a baby who has a long way before they grow up. Star trek without the help of Q is so utterly helpless. It would take a million years to get any where close to the raw firepower need.
Maybe if the entire startrek universe, every empire at the height of their power, some how didn't fight a single war, could beat the empire. It would be ugly and death toll would be in the trillions, but maybe. Alone it isn't even a whimper.

In the episode where they modded the torpedo, they modified it on Voyager with ease within a short amount of time with no issues. I would venture to guess they could modify torpedos throughout the federation fleet if they wanted to without much difficulty, meaning it wouldn't be a 1 shot and done deal. Also the metric for torpedo yield is ISOTON not megaton, making it intentionally unmeasurable by our standards, so we really don't know what kind of damage a torpedo could do. Harry Kim aked if they were going to blow up a small planet when they modified a torpedo to 64 Isoton, so obviously that would be far above any nuclear weapon.
Also I never said anything about star trek canon not being totally wonky all over the place. This is again why this topic is interesting yet hotly debated. Where do you draw the line? What should be allowed or not? Personally ive never seen any sun blowing up in the Star Wars movies nor any planet blowing up besides from a death star, so not sure where youre getting that from. And Star Wars hardly has the monopoly of pulling things out of their behinds, Star Trek was doing it Shatner style 10 years before Star Wars came out.
Truthfully if the federation said screw rules, they could dominate everyone, they would have phasing cloaked ships, future armor from voyager and transphasic torpedos that would tear everyone a new one, QSD's (which they will likely develop down the road anyway). But all these tech just vanish into thin air after the episode they appear in.
You say It would take a million years to get any where close to the raw firepower need. yet in Star Trek canon the federation has timeships in another 500 years down the road, all they would have to do is go back in time and wipe out the empire before they even existed. But unfortunately having a uber powerful unstoppable federation with god tech doesn't make for good tv.
Im stand by assertion that if the federation actually decided to use EVERYTING at their disposal, every tech they have acquired over the years, and decided to be like the mirror universe federation empire, Star Wars ships wouldn't stand a chance. I have seen nothing that indicated otherwise in the movies. They have hyperdrive, that's the only tech that they can really hold over the Star Trek universe and say is measurably better.

Though you do realize 9000 things you mention come from the worst show in startrek history (well that enterprise).
Not up to me, but voyager would be banned for being traitor to star trek. If you want use that show i can 't stop you, but i rather get a blow job from hippopotamus then admit that show is startrek. The only relevance is in the name is stole. it's lost in space with a three inch dick and down syndrome. their ant one redeeming quality. Yet people use it as the idiot shield. It like bringing a handcannon to a bar brawl. Why the heck would you do that?
it killed the federation, the borg, ripped off the predator films. It list of atrocities are so long that the world most powerful super computer couldn't crunch the numbers.
you sir, brought the hand cannon to the bar brawl, you won the fight but your dignity is gone.

Irrelevant, fact is it IS still a part of Star Trek canon, just as Jar Jar will always be a part of Star Wars. You nor I cant change that fact. And again that is the reason this debate comes up. As I said before, where do you draw the line? What is allowed and what isn't? You cant have a debate about a topic such as this if you're going to only pick and choose what YOU want allowed in the discussion. You have to take in account everything available to both sides. If I thought the force was completely utterly stupid, and the worst aspect of Star Wars, so you shouldn't use it, how is that any different then what you say about Voyager? Regardless of your opinion on Voyager, it is and always will be canon Star Trek, meaning its tech is available in such an argument.
So if it makes you feel better about yourself to say the federation isn't allowed to use anything from Voyager, go right ahead, doesn't matter to me. You want to think the Empire in Star Wars is unbeatable because they are old, great. Good for you. LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!
But if you want to have a debate using actual canon and the merits of whats shown in the shows and movies, that we can do. If all you want to do is complain about how crappy and wonky the canon is, and how it shouldn't be allowed well then this is a pointless discussion.
