This is from ground combat in STO.

The screencap was JUST as I respawned on a 'fleet action' map (fleet action maps are basicly were everyone of a single rank goes to that map, and semi cooperates to complete the objectives)

The SS was took about the 6th or so time I respawned in the kill zone.

STOs devs are semi incompetent with balance.

And yes, the nacelles go downwards. :P

What is THIS?! This reminds me of the first draft for the sovereign class, which they scrapped because it looked like a chicken in a pan. Thats a design only a shipwright could love...

EDIT: Also, getting spawned in the middle of all of that doesn't reflect well on the designers. Are they even aware of how badly recieved this game is. Do they even play the game? Doesn't seem like they do. I'd be embarrassed to put my name on that if I were them.

Repeatedly.

For a number of the missions that are open instance (IE: Everyone of a single rank goes to the same map) they 'balance' it by making it all but unbeatable unless a large group of people semi cooperate.

For some reason that often results in people getting killed by a single shot, or respawning in the middle of (or having spawn arround you) a mass swarm of enemies.

Or like I discovert last night... a number of their missions are broken, reported as such on their fourms months ago, and nothing done to fix it (despite staff posting 'were on it' on the fourms).

Example: Mission from DS9 called Rapier. You go to resuce a ship (which you start out just knowing was missing) captured by Jem'Hadar (or destroy it) that went missing 6 years ago. Why destroy it when it's been missing and possibly captured for the past 6 years, I have no clue, dont expect intelligence from their mission makers.

The breaking bug was you have to rescue six crew members from the mess hall. However the only way to have that objective appear is to stand right in the treshhold into the mess hall. You stand there, you get shot at by jem hadar. You're in combat, the message prompts from your crew and such giving you new objectives close automaticly when a shot is fired. From my own experince and the fourm threads on it, it's VERY easy to enter, get shot at, and start untying the crew.

However, if you release any before triggering that message you cannot beat the mission as it only starts counting released crew AFTER you trigger the message.

So yeah, STO's devs are pretty incompetent.

Sounds like they've got their work cut out for them...

STO really is all about fighting and pointlessly shooting  :crybaby:
If they made it a real good TREK-game with real options other than "shoot it" it'd have been a pretty nice game.

that really sums up the new jj trek, its really just more star wars, if it moves, shoot it. no thought, no character/story development. bad guys gonna blow up earth, so shoot them until they stop/die

Not exactly... I felt the movie to be a character-driven origin story. The story-telling ran like in a star-wars manner, but I cannot see where this is bad. We had no real space-battle in the movie (the only real battle wasn't seen by the audience at all). The Kelvin had no chance to escape or effectively defend itself (also this was just an illustration of why Kirk didn't care until he reached the top of his character-arch in the movie), and the Enterprise was just firing at the missile-things in the end to cover Spock's ship... compared to Nemesis, where three ships fired on a super-shielded and cloaked vessel without ANY effect of weakening it this sort of battle made at least some sense.

Abrams dealt more in visuals, so we got things like Spock seeing his planet being destroyed from a planet that couldn't be that close to Vulcan or Kirk seeing the Enterprise being built where he just happens to live to see his destiny from the distance... the only Trek-like thing that really got ignored is all the tech-stuff and how it works.

i disagree. i didnt really connect with any of them, being blinded by lens flare didnt help, i couldnt rarely see them.

you mean the giant squid that fires loads of missiles and is partially flooded on the inside? i'd believe the scimitar over the narada any day. both were silly imo, just a giant squid is worse than a giant bird.

Can you give an example of which models you find pretty?

Because it's not Star Wars. Every decent franchise has it's own style, it's own feel. Once one franchise uses another's style, it loses it's essence.

As for the topic:

I find ships in STO a bit too... radical, to be honest. There are a few designs that could feasibly be worked into something decent, but it would basically involve taking the basic shape and layout, and remaking everythinge else from the ground up to be more Trek-like. But that's just my own personal taste (or lack of).

THIS WAS NOT ABOUT GAMEPLAY!!!!!!, it was not about the story, not about the Shoot em' up style, ADN defanately not about JJ!!!!!!!!!!!. it was about the ships, the designs, not how their misused, personaly I(my thread) think that the designns are amazing, and in tune with the ships seen at other points in star trek such as, Abmiral Janeways Shuttle, Enterprise J, Nemisis Sovereign, and its 30 Years in the future, you can't critizise the designs JUST because the game is bad, its really not fair to the devs, who have tried there best to  create somthing new of a series. i can't belive how off topic this has gone.

actually your first post was a simple question about whether fo would get sto designs. that wasnt answered lol. if u dont want people to disagree with your point of view that sto ships are amazing, then a blog would be a better place to air it. the op isnt always right

If you see these ships as 'in-line with Trek', does that mean you view these a worthy refits for the Galaxy Class?
