Knowing that the last TV series Enterprise was axed and Star Trek Nemesis was badly received by the majority of critics. Anyone else get the feeling that the new film is going to be a make or break for the Star Trek Franchise?

Lets just say it doesn't matter what the critics say.  I liked Enterprise and Nemesis ok.  If they hate the movie you should still go and see it for your self.  And common, the critics hated Star Wars, and look how popular it still is.

I see your points. I'm actually seeing it in a few days time. I'm highly skeptical of the whole idea. Star Trek seems to be covering old ideas with new looking technology (Enterprise series). I wish they'd of done a series about the Enterprise B or C. I just get the feeling that Star Trek is losing its way. Its turning into action over substance. I hated Nemesis. Flying the Enterprise E with a joystick? Data losing his mind and the whole B4 thing. Terrible ideas.

From what I understand the new cool looking technology is supposed to to look as cool as the original star trek look to the people who watched it.  And I totally agree with you about Nem.  I just liked the graphics, tech, races.  It was (along with Ent.) subject to bad writing.  ^-^

The joystick was insurrection though, which I personally liked. I thought it was very Roddenbery, and told a good story.

that was kinda the reason Tom Parris built the Delta flyer the way he did.  He didn't like the fly by button thing, so he implemented joystick steering.  don'y know why any other ship would have it tho.

Nemesis = Not too bad.  If you guys want to really know HOW big a dork I am, I had to hide my tears when Data died. lol.

Enterprise....I totally reject ANY AND ALL canon from this show.  It was sooooo frigging horrible.  Its like Star-Trek went back in time and made all their technology function better and more operational, etc.  It took all the worst elements of Voyager, combined with the look of DS9 foreign looking tech, rolled it onto a piece of paper, then the writers threw ink on the paper and any legible words that came out was what they used for the story.  I really really hate that show....and I've only seen like 4 episodes.

Yes, I'm a judgmental asshole...so what! :-p

I think  with JJ Abrhams he has got the title wrong  it is StarWreck. There are some things that you cant change in a  established series  . Like casting  Larry the Cable guy  or Jim Carey  as James Bond. Just dose NOT WORK.Like Scotty allways was saying"Captian I can't change the laws of physics!!" some things should be unchangeable.

Saw this film last night and thought I'd let you guys know what I thought.

There I was thinking that this film would cover Kirk meeting Spock and McCoy etc only to find out half way through the film that its an alternate timeline and everything I saw was not the real timeline. I thought the acting was good for the most part, hands up to Karl Urban he was great as McCoy, the guy who played Chekov was really bad plus they took the piss out of his accent on too many occassions, it was overkill. The plot for this films really lets it down, it was reduced to loud and colourful action (too much like Star Wars) after all JJ Abrams is more of Star Wars fan than a Trekkie and it shows in this film. Chekov can also beam up two people free falling but they cant beam up Spocks mum off a cliff edge? Rubbish

The Romulans
I was more annoyed with the Romulans than anything else. Can someone explain why the Romulans are all bald and have tattoos up the backs of their necks? Did someone reprogramme some borg nanites to piss off the Romulans? I have an even greater time believing that the Romulan ship is a mining vessel! Its like 20 times bigger than the enterprise and does even look Romulan (more like the shadows from babylon 5! why isnt it a Romulan Warbird??) what the hell are they mining entire planets?

I could go on all day ripping it out of this poor attempt at a Star Trek film.  Star Trek is dead. What do you guys think?

Best Star Trek movie ever! Saw it on opening night and last night. Gonna go again today! Love the new transporter and warp effect. Favorite part is the beggining. Does it realy matter about alternate timelines? It's just a story anyway, and it's not like they can erase all your dvds of the Next Gen, TOS, DS9, Voyager, ect... Had a lot to do with the characters and not just action. I think they took the best qualities of both Star Wars and Star Trek, and combined it into one movie!!! It reminds me a lot of Star Trek IV. So funny, exciting, scary, and emotional! Don't be upset, this is great! Star Trek is back with a vengence! Live long and prosper Star Trek! For those of you that absolutely hate, and despise this, isn't this better than nothing? We've all been waiting so long for a new Star Trek!  :woot:
