is the golden age of space sci-fi coming to an end ?

Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

New Poll Gauges Americans' General Knowledge Levels

Just be glad the Voyager writers didn't make an episode where Earth was the center of the solar system.

Don't jinx it... they catch you saying that, and they'll likely get a sequel series.

With the recent reboot movie, a series could easily happen.  I suspect JJ Abrams will be involved.

Hmmm. Well it seems like the only Sci-Fi they left us are Eureca and Fringe, both of them sadly don't have spaceships.
Since I don't consider Star Wars to be Science Fiction that's no solution for me(but I must say my favourite SW is Episode 1, the worst and most boring is Episode 4, 2hours talking about their force crap  and in the end a small battle. Just like "Pearl Harbor" ) ), but I'm always impressed how they keep that universe alive, Paramount should have copied their merchandise policy a long time ago.
So, in terms of series it looks admittedly quite bad, but we have movies to concentrate on. Star Trek is still running(besides music and Star Wars effects ST11 wasn't that bad), and there were some other nice SF movies during the last years: I Robot, Avatar, District 9, Terminator, Predators, Transformers, Pandorum...
I still got hopes for the SF genre :), although I didn't like the approach of SGU and the new Battlestar Galactica. I want characters I can identify laugh with, not some stupid soldiers I don't care about if they die. You know, I got the impression in BSG the humans were in no way better than the Cylons, why should I care about them? Why don't just let the Robots win if they are humans anyway?
I hope Star Trek will satisfy my desire for a positive future in the upcoming movies, because that's what most of the other Sci-Fi universes never conveyed.

Just gotta ask, what exactly about Episode I makes you not want to punch it in the face?

And who doesn't like space marines?

Liam Neeson is great . Okay, the child is annoying. But there's Natalie Portman. And the Gungans.
I guess I just don't know what's so great about the old movies that the new one's are considered crap.

What does your Space Marine sentence refer to? I do like Space Marines, painting some Plague Marine's right now ;).

Yeah, Starship Troopers. The first was great, the second crap, the third had a nice story(linked to the 1st) but obviousely little budget.

Nice! Well you out hard-cored me I guess. I was just referring to your dislike of "dumb soldiers". I do kinda agree in that the BSG soldiers and some of the SGU soldiers pissed me major off, but generally soldiers in space is pretty awesome. Especially SG1, were it's actually acceptable to show the US military as good guys.  :D

And of course, as everyone was quick to point out, Starship Troopers is f$%king awesome. Also Aliens.

The RedLetterMedia guy explained why a lot of people don't like Episode I far better than anyone else ever could. If you have an hour to kill and want to laugh your ass off...

Then again it might ruin it for you or annoy you seeing as he rips into it really damn hard...

Agreed, I quite liked new movies (that I grew up with  :whistling:  slight bias). If only for very nice sword play, especially Episode III, the fight between Obi Wan and Anikin is quite fun to watch, so is the big sword battle in Episode I.

Which is not to say I dislike the original three, but they are just a little bit lacking in action for the amount of talk and occasionally get a bit dry.

I didn't even bother to go watch SGU,
star trek enterprise has never caught my interest as well tho I'd like to check it out sooner or later see if it was any good but I think it was a mistake to go back in time with star trek after voyager.

Star Trek Nemesis was REALLY good and I do like the new star trek movie from JJ as well.
