Phoenix's Map Making Extension 1.0

Description
This mod adds a few new map editing functions for aspiring map makers and provides a standardised "package" for people to download and keep track of all changes, added by myself; Phoenix, to their game (related to Map Making), and thus, reduce the risk of online incompatability.

Features of this mod
1. No Stars odf file - for map makers to add an eerie sense of "emptiness" to their maps.
2. Extra small "Block" trigger - adds a new block trigger which is 1/4 the size of the default one; allowing for more intricate map making.

They look pretty good, especially the second.

They look very intresting, but you could pack those 3 files (map, txt and image) in archive (zip perhaps), it would ease the downloading.

I'll be packing them into one archive once I have a few more to flesh it out. That way people can have a pack or just individual ones if they only want the one. :)

great maps, but on asteroid belt theres some issue with ships flying out of the wormhole and through the asteroids  :ermm:

Thanks for the feedback Cpt Balu. I have updated Asteroid Belt to v1.1 :)

I am currently working on a new star system map. It focuses more on aesthetic realism, but I'm hoping I can strike a good balance as well as make it look pretty plausible :)

It would be nice, if you put the sizes of the maps in your post. I would have imagined that the asteroid belt would bigger. I think asteroid belt map is too small. I had problems with building a dominion base so I just can imagine how is it playing with borg. Could be a little bit crowded.

I think it could be a bit bigger too :). I might make a bigger version of it to give a bit more room to breath. In the mean time you could split you base and build half of it in one of the expansion areas :D

Thanks for the comments folks. The sizes are displayed on the website but I'll update my initial post for quicker reference :)

Thanks for the feedback :). I went back to the drawing board with Asteroid Belt and made a bit more space. It's still only 8400x8400 but I think I've made better use of the space available. Here's a comparison:

I also made a bigger version altogether, rather aptly named: "The Edgeworth-Kuiper Belt". You can probably see the similarity between the OLD Asteroid Belt and this and The EK Belt. I tried the borg on this map and had no issues expanding :).

I have updated my original post with screens of two new maps and the modified Asteroid Belt and my website has been appropriately updated. More feedback people! :D

All maps are now archived as rar files (would have gone with zip but I can't upload zips for some bizarre reason).

I have also made a rendition of "The Void" from Voyager, inspired by Tyler :). No stars, very dark. The Void completes my first Map Pack!

My original post has been updated.

I like them but something on the 'Sigma Draconis' is wrong, could you have picked a worse place for the Ferengi Marauder?
posted on January 27th, 2009, 7:36 pm
haha, yeah I noticed that too. Normally, a fully manned ship can actually survive with no damage as long as it's shields are up because there is a Crystallic nebula directly on the wormhole so you can use it without dying. Unfortunately, a derelict cannot have shields up so the Crystallid nebula loses its repairing qualities an the Nebulon goes right ahead and kills it :)

Strangely, that's given me an idea for a map!

How did Sigma Draconis play for you? Is there anything in particular that you liked or disliked?

Should I be worried for the NPC's?

The moons and nebula's are a good touch. It looks like they have tails. They only 'problem' would be the Ferengi ship.

Actually, it was the Nebula combination that gave me the idea but I probably wouldn't have had the idea if you didn't point out the poor Ferengi ship :)

I quite liked the tails too: they add a visual touch that I thought made the Sigma Draconis system seem more authentic. they also act as natural barriers but can be traversed at the cost of damaging your fleet or even losing a few smaller ships. Could be worth a suprise attack while you keep your enemies force diverted somewhere else.

How did you find the other maps?

The stuff won't download!  :crybaby: WHY ME?!!! Anyway, I'm running Mac, so that may have something to do with it.
