I would not be opposed.... However what I would really like to see is a movie or short about the failed attempt to rescue Captain Kirk from the Klingon penal colony where he was held during the events of Star Trek VI

Apparently Captain Sulu went into Klingon Space and was attacked be several Klingon Cruisers on the way to Rurapente (spelling unsure). The Excelsior eventually had to turn back, but she gave the Klingons hell. I think it would be a seriously cool action piece.

indeed, they showed some of it in the voyager ep with tuvoks flashbacks. the excel had tight shields like in nemesis. seems starfleet abandoned that idea, before going back to skin tight hugging the hull shields.

Yeah, Contour conforming shields are definitely noticeable on TMP era ships like the Conny, Miranda and Excel. It wasnt until TNG we see a shield 'Bubble' it makes more sense to have something farther from the hull to reduce the proximity of blast damage.. just advances in technology I guess

i wonder which is more effective, i'm gonna presume the tight shields cos starfleet used them in nemesis, the latest canon trek chronologically. i'm sure tyler will disagree though

And if you think about an egg, an spherical shape is quire strong.

eggs arent spheres, they're ovoids. and as such are stronger from the front.

but this is if you plan on sitting on your starship, which is unlikely. the key characteristic would be how much energy it can stop and in what forms it can stop it.

I don't presume to know whats more effective. Unfortunately when comparing movies and shows, many times what we see is because it looks cooler, and not necessarily because it is more effective or based in any real science or physics.

I remember seeing the Enterprise with a shield 'Bubble' at the battle of sector 001... unless she got a refit before Nemesis which actually come to think of it she did... so nevermind. Plot Hole Covered!

yes the ent-e had a bubble shield in first contact, clearly seen when taking the cube's fire away from the defiant.

and the details of the ent-e changed in each of the movies, indicating refits.
