not sure how I feel about this

i feel happy. dont blow up those valuable ships that starfleet sends. and now when fighting the feds you should target warpins if possible. as that will cost the enemy supplies.

If hunting warpins (especially the fragile ones) can be used to directly damage the fed economy (possibly costing them 1400/1400 to get active again) I think the warpins might end up a little bit harder to gank.

How about some Constution Dreadnaught's instead . Instead of giving you some "new" shiney ships that respond to your distress call, you get thease instead.Basically thease are surplus obsolete Refitted Connies with Additional Armor and extra Torpedo tubes . They are purpose rebuilt to take a beating.

I'm worried that those who use warpin defensively will be punished when that Galaxy dies in normal combat. I think that there should be a three minute timer on the supply penalty so that there's still a penalty for using it offensively as a suicide mission, but I won't have to decommission my warpins or keep them in the base for the whole match for worry that they will cost me lots of supply.

maybe you get a penalty on time? every time a ship dies, you get 10 seconds or so added to the SFC cooldown.

i like this idea more

I think supply is a good idea. Feds get easy supply anyway, i.e. they are very supply cheap. The whole point of this idea is to prevent those offensive suicide missions from being too good.

I really like this idea. Though even heavily re-fitted, I still have my doubts about an 80 year old starship's combat ability.

Excelsior Class are over 80 and still effective at their role, so a mere 80 years isn't enough to make its use questionable. The Constitution is way older than that, though.

i think the constituion refit could serve as an emergency transport or a tug.
but probably not on the front lines in a war.

The last constitution refit is about ten years older than excelsior.

Excelsiors are far more upgradable than connies and easier to refit at 467m compared to a connie refits 305m but i dont want to see a Connie or Connie dreadnought (Federation class) in FO as anything more than a map object with weapons (if captured) hardly more powerful than a venture scouts.

Except that the Excelsior isn't the only ship around that long; the Oberth and Miranda will have been that old by TNG. The K't'inga was around for even longer in some form or another. That shows age doesn't always make things useless.

The problem with the Constitution-class starships is specificallly how hard it is to upgrade them. Enterprise-A was pretty much the best starfleet could do. And when weighed between keeping the name Enterprise on the class it made famous, or putting it on an Excelsior for Enterprise-B, they went with the Excelsior hull. More room, more power for systems, more space to upgrade things in...which makes it a longer-lasting class. Though there are certainly other spacefaring civilizations that a Constitution-class would spank their entire fleet. Though remember, in ToS, if memory serves, thermonuclear warheads could threaten NCC-1701. That's right, H-bombs.
The Miranda, I don't remember exactly why she stayed in service so long. The Oberth, however...that thing is basically a large sensor suite designed for detail work. And built for upgrading those sensors. She could continue to do her job for a long, long time. I suspect that Starfleet is phasing them out not because they can't do their jobs, but because they can't support powerful enough shields and weapons to make them uninviting targets these days.
