Something About Point Defense Phaser

That's all well and good but it has superior shields and phaser armament to the Akira, which is patently a warship, so how would you classify it, a really big science ship that happens to have more weapons than a cruiser?

BTW I seem to remember that when the promethous was stolen Starfleet sent a Nebula and a Defiant after it. Why would they send a science ship?

It DOES have more phasers then akira but not torpedos, I don't see what more weapons proves, every starfleet vessel doubles as a war vessel, even the science ships.

Did you think maybe beause the nebula was closer then other heavy cruisers that it could help get the prometheus back from the romulans? Maybe because it has power type 10 phasers? Huh?

I think in the end it all balances out to power vs tech and it works. ^_^

nebula's where made because of the costs and the long building time of the galaxy. and the galaxy class ship was mainly for exploration and science. The nebula was just quicker to build but had the same purpose. Most nebula in the series where for scientific purposes, at ds9 forinctance it was a ship that was used for terraforming planets.

It is true that in teh dominion wars they where refitted with a weapon pod and used as a more offensive role, but that was because starleeft needed every ship
