I'd like to request bringing back the saucer separation for the Galaxy Class, and giving it a special ability as well.

As a command vessel, it could be given an ability to command and coordinate other starships. For example, the Home One Mon Calmari cruiser in Empire at War had "Concentrate Firepower." All ships
would concentrate firepower on a single selected target. I think this would be a welcome addition to the Galaxy Class as its a little on the weakside without a special attribute.

That would be useful, Saucer seperation would help with numbers in a pinch. Plus, as this is Fleet Ops, no-one can complain that the Saucer is impulse only.

you got to be a TNG-series lover, cause a galaxy class is not a flagship anymore :P (just kiddin)
i dont like the idea that much.. and i cant see a big benefit out of this, cause the seperated ship wouldnt be that powerful.

What do you mean? The seperated ships have the same weapons, hull & Shield generators as the complete one. It would be like the Prometheus MVAM, except there are two parts instead of three. Even if they were weaker, if the enemy is swarming you, you'd need every chance you can get.

sure, its the same phaser arrays and the like, but, you need the warpcore for full power. taking that into account, it would endup pretty useless. the seperation was meant to be for distraction, and for escape of the crew, while the other part acts as a backup.
and for this game.. when an oponent is swarming you and you're completly outnumbered, then a second wont count. thats what i mean.

The game is like real life, a single ship can make a big difference if used right.

I am a TNG lover and darn proud of it too. I'm also a fan of the Galaxy Class, but from an objective point of view, the ability to saucer separate in Armada II made it a very versatile ship class and not to mention very, very fun.

and what will you say if the saucer section gets blown away pretty easy? another topic like "make the saucer section better perform in combat"?

If it got destroyed, I'd say "Oh well, shit happens", losinf the sauce would be no different to losing any other ship. An idea isn't bad just because you say it is (which also works the other way around). Removing it has screwed the Galaxy by removing it's main unique feature, now it's just a ship when the stock version had the seperation to make it different.

nah, im not just saying it is bad. im just trying to figure out why you seem to want it so badly, since its a hard thing to do, to put it back in. cause once seperated, their handled like 2 ships instead of 2 parts of 1 ship. and that coupled with the rank-system and all the general changes made in this mod, it looks like its close to impossible to do and so not really worth the hard work.
to be honest, i can understand it, cause i like the galaxy class too, since i grew up with the TNG show. but seperation in or not, i think the ship is still unique and leaving the separation out wont change my point of view on it.

All the rank would need to do is have the ship keep the higher of the two. It would be difficult but not impossible.

The seperation is one of my favourite Galaxy Class features, it is the only Starfleet ship that has canon seperation & reintergration abilties. It's like an emergency feature, your not likely to use it but it's good to know it's their if you need it. Plus, I've seen people complain that DS9 Galaxy's never used this feature.

Separation never made sense to me, if you add it than why in the world would you need the single ship? You'd never send a complete galaxy in, you'd just send the pieces in..

And how many people spammed it in the stock game? Most people likely wouldn't use it unless they needed numbers fast. I only used it when in trouble (short of ships during an attack).

Saucer Seperation is no military attack pattern or something like that. a splitted galaxy is far less effective in combat then a combined one (taken from the Galaxy Technology Book). Therefore seperation wont make it into Fleet Operations as a special ability, but perhaps in some other way

That gives me hope, but what else could it be used for besides a tactical advantage?
