We also already have special plasma torpedos that disable guns for a short time. Yet another version that just does more damage isn't really needed.

Yah I was thinking more around a normal weapon type, for some new rommie vessle maybe :)

I voted for BAD. Why? Just play the normal Armada2, get Cardassians, build Talon Class with Weapon Overload, fire Weapon Overload and voila...there is ur Plasma Torpedo. Good vs stations, bad vs ships. Its just too slow...ships could nearly fly away with impulse. 0o But the torpedo looks nice.

i voteg good just on the basis that a plasma torp is an extreamly devastating weapon i belive it shood be stronger anny ways and not because im a romulan player, the quantom torp shood have more kick too a few weapons could but, of corse that in my opinion

Yeah the quantums could have A LOT more kick ... but in the end we need to make sure the balancing issues are worked out. Imagine if quantums were properly powerful, and the akiras were retrofitted to be "proper" akiras with quantum torps. For that matter, a "proper" sovreign could kill 3 or 4 warbirds/negvars in under 5 seconds with quantums. What's the point?

The plasma torpedos in game are already as powerful as the quantums lol.

true, i think 2 warbirds tops, a 3rd would probably overwhelm it.

and for coolhandab, when have you seen an akira actually fire quantums? yes it can be modified to fire them, but then just about any ship can be modified to fire them. i think quantums should be left exclusively for the soveriegn, thats what makes it a cut above the rest of the fleet. for the excelsior 2, well there was only ever one made the USS Lakota.

i like jans idea, that plasma overload is exactly what i think the plasma torpedo should be like. plus i think the romulans fire photons normally anyway.

has anyone actually seen a TNG/DS9 episode showing romulan ships firing torpedos? i've only ever seen them fire disrupter beams & pulses.

Lakota wasen't an excelsior 2, theres no such thing as the excelsior 2. It was a new excelsior subtype prototype.

anyway i agree with JAN

Yep, the ExcelsiorII is not a official design. the Lakota Subtype only had minor visual changes from a normal Excelsior. the ExcelsiorII instead has a new deflector dish for example

and a very nice one at that B)
but i think you could be forgiven for saying the lakota was a second edition of the execlsior class cos its systems were so different from normal. not just the quantums but the phasers were a lot more powerful. :)

wooteth :woot: 500th post *hears some sniggers from the top 10 posters* :cloak:

Actually the Enterprise subtype would be the second edition, given it has bigger impulse engines, cloak detecting sensors, and a new targetting system. Lakota would be the third generation.

I know akiras don't fire quantums on screen. ;) It seems logical that the dorsal weapon pod could be upgraded to burst-firing quantum capability.

But my remark about the 5 warbirds / neghvars is considering that the Nemesis Enterprise E can fire 4 + 4*2*3 = 28 quantum torpedos per second (or thereabouts, 4 per second for the ventral rapid fire, and 3 per second sustained rate for the 4 dual burst launchers). It seems like 20 something quantums could blow away any capital ship (not counting freaking ridiculous dominion superdreadnaughts).

I think it can fire about 12 torpedos a second from it's forward batteries, and it's more like 4 seconds.
