well in bata 2 thare where a few romulan ships that need to upgrade tham self to get beter weponds.

Simply put.. this is star trek, not ever crack. Upgrading ships like that sounds to me an awful lot like upgrading equipment or something.. its retarded...

yes, but thats because the designers of the major powers have either found flaws or found ways to make them better after a year or two of looking at the designs... just refitting a ship by giving it better weapons or shields or sensors or something with no explanation why or anything just doesn't sound like star trek to me.. I don't know.. But if you do make a ship like that, make it the last one you can build, and make it consume those star point thingys too.. like the phalanx class..

why? the excelsior has probably been upgraded more times than most others and thats 1 of the most abundant ships in starfleet. what your proposing would limit such ships which is gai.

so then why don't we make it to where you start out with the standard excelsior II class, and then upgrade it as you move along? =P...

It has not to be the Federation who refits its ships. It might as well be another race. Actually I can't imagine a situation in the context of FO which would make the Federation refit its ships. I think this feature should indeed be a basic feature but for another race. Sounds in a way borgy to me ^_^

er the romulans are the only ones that have it, since they dont have all that many designs, it has to be assumed that they upgrade & refit their fleet to keep it current, or thay just wouldn't be a threat. i merely used the feds excelsior as an example of how wrong you were

Such as on enterpise when the fase canions come out the ship instoled tham not some star base.

And in the ncc 1701 - D jordy would upgrade the ship all the time.

In meny episode of voager the ship was modifyed.

And thare where a few modafications to runabouts on DS9 wile in space

I bet if you looked you could finde episodes wher the 1st ent was modifyed in space.
