hey i think 3.1.5 has left the feds up. look at all the bugs they have. its silly. the sabre doesnt even get all its cover fire time, how can feds ever hope to compete if their sabres are getting 3 whole seconds less of cover fire. its barmy. :(

that shows how up the feds are. they have to run away and hide because they lack the power to actually fight, hiding dont help u peacefully annihilate your enemies does it?

Yes, it does help; if they don't see Sisko's pimp hand flying at them (SF Debris gave me a new name for the class), they die while you peacefully sip Earl Grey on the bridge.

No, it's making them look like they did on the shows/movies, and the balance impact would basicly be nonexistent.

FO ships are future refits and varients, differences are to be expected since a successful design is likely to earn such upgrades while role updates would also sometimes require some tech changes.

The new Sabre heavy weapon also doesn't have the limited ammo issue a torpedo launcher would on such a small ship, nor the accuracy one.

It wont change a bit lets just change the pulses (good vs destroyers) to torps (good vs battleships). That wont affect balance at all.

You can't fit very many torpedoes on a small destroyer.  Pulses are better.  For battleships, just reroute power from engines and sensors to the weapons.  You'll slow down a bit and you won't have as much sensor coverage, but you'll have excellent firepower.  Of course, to escape, you'll need to reroute power back to the normal configuration.

  Keep in mind that the Defiant from DS9 is a Veteran or "hero" ^-^ and thus has faster firing pulses and quantum torpedoes.  :thumbsup:.

It's not just a veteran, it's a prototype, followed by a copy of the prototype.  And then, it gets alien technology grafted into it.

That ship is so far from standard that using it as a confirmed template is...iffy at best.

two things:

1) as dircome says, you rush your ideas and say they wont affect balance, when actually they will. balance is a lot more subtle than how much dps a ship does.

2) this isnt canon, its a game, not everything has to be canon. the people who make the game can choose what parts of canon they want to follow. you'd be surprised how well it all fits into canon as well.

take the sabre for example. we saw it fire torps once only. in a fleet. that sabre may have been a non standard sabre. also fleetops is set a lot later than canon, the quantum pulse is a new piece of tech, they may have discovered that quantum pulses are plain better on a sabre. and that photons dont work as well on a sabre.

The feds are certainly more of a challenge to play in 3.1.5
