Descent class

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

Hey guys,

First let me say WOW and thank you for a wonderful game.

I wanted to ask a question regarding the Federation Descent Class. It seems I can only have two of these ships at a time. Was this intentional? When you request one it states that it uses 4 slots. What does this mean? It also states that after a Dscent class reaches a certain level it only uses two slots. Again can you explain? I have been playing a game for a while and still am not able to have more than two. Just curious if I am missing something.

Thanks again.

Forgot to mention, I do have the latest patch.

Heyho and welcome to the forums :)

There are some vessels that are limited, like Warp-In vessels for example or the Phalanx Class. You should se a "Warp-In vessels X/X" in the tooltip. "Consumes 4 slots" states, that such a unit will count as 4 Warp-in Vessels. That means yep, you can only have 2 Descent Class vessels as long as they do not rank up (2*4=8 out of 9 Warp-In vessels)

...then, if you rank them up, they only require 2 slots each. So if you build 2 then rank them up, it goes from 8/9 used down to 4/9 used, so you can warp in a 3rd one.

However, if you rank that up you're only down to 6/9, so you can't warp in a 4th.

I think it goes down from 4 slots to 3, so you can still only have a maximum of 2 Descents (6 of 9 slots), plus potentially unlimited regular warp-in ships (since if the regular ones rank up they stop costing slots altogether)

descent is overrated anyways.  i beat a dominion on hard with nothing but norways which are my new favorite ship of all time.  for some reason they seem to last forever before getting killed while my sovereigns defiants etc all die.

Descent might not be as powerful as it looks, but it is far from overrated.

Free and (nearly) useless....

It's really not useless when used well, as part of a fleet it can change the course of a battle.

People have beaten other players using scout spams. So beating with norways only or sovies means nothing.
the AI are spammers, but need to collect resources to do so.
If you hit them early enough they will not be able to counter a rush effectively.

if one were to win multiplayer with norways only, then it;s a different story.

the Descent does play a vital role in the fleet and is useful in a defensive as well as offensive fleet.

no, descent is way overated, its firepower sucks, cant outgun a sovy

and its defense is only like 60, which is only half of tavara, it reallly dosent help, its not free, you have to build the station, and then wait to warp in descents and they dont do anything, 2 tavars could kile like 6 descents

that's why feds have more versatile and yet powerful ships that can be mixed and matched.

you have defiants, sovs, excelsiors, and akiras.

rommies need the tavara due to the sheer numeric fed strength.

Klings too have many strong ships, but the greatest advantage they have is the spam factor.

So they balance themselves out.

im not bragging about being a good player.  in fact im kinda the opposite,  ive lost several games because i was websurfing or went to get something to eat while i waited for resources to build up.  i come back to find everything destroyed and my starbase with 3 health left.

its just amazing to me that i beat a dominion on hard with with tons of v-13 battle cruisers and breen ships, 6 or 7 starbases and several of those perimeter thingies using only 5 groups of norways.   and most of them survived.  considering they only have an attack of 20 and defense of 20 something compared to the specs of the other ships either their special abilities are waaaay kickass or or the AI simply couldnt believe that i was attacking with norways.  it probably thought it was a diversionary tactic and that i was going to send in a fleet of sovereigns and defiants from another direction or something.  :)

@serpicus......does the AI actually use resources cause someone in another thread posted that the AI doesnt actually use resources from the moons.
