Can anyone please reply to what I am asking instead of being like SquireJames here? He is keeping this off topic and that means my questions aren't getting answers and thus that equals progress stalled. :(

If I were you, I'd post one question at a time. Which is the first that hasn't been answered? :)

My replies are not the reason your questions have not been answered. The reason they haven't been answered is because it's an issue many of us have hit, and we're not exactly sure how to get something to work stand alone.

I have a file and folder comparison program, and I compared a normal A2 installation with the STA2 Classic Mod.

The various input maps and such have been changed. If you need any specific folders checking for differences, let me know. It's something I have spent a long time on but I am afraid I never worked out the key to getting it to work.

@Adm. Saxxin: That would be simpler but would take a lot longer because when I come up with questions, I am either working on the mod, playing a game or have more than one question come up related to the same/first question and thus automatically I'm going to post them as a group, hence the fact that I number them. Nothing says anyone has to answer all of the questions, I'd be happy with an answer given to any of the questions, but quoting the question and or it's number and then answering it. Actually it's a very simple concept.

Plus it's really best to ask all the questions when you know them and have them fresh on your mind. When it comes to posting questions, I take the option that is actually the best for myself and it happens to be posting multiple questions especially when I have other things to do as well throughout the course of the day.

Did my comparison pictures help at all?
posted on February 16th, 2013, 12:57 am
@SquireJames: I happen to know that in the STA2_Classic mod that the Animations folder wasn't deleted as your program says it was, it was renamed to "animation" instead of "animations". A simple rename could equal a deletion in programs that compare programs and folders.

I have learned from experience not to use them and go directly by your own sense of seeing and or getting that type of answer from the "horse's mouth" so to speak, thus meaning "The Creator", that way things are actually 100% right or very close to it.

I would never use a comparison program nor would I trust it, I used one one with another game I was modding and the comparison program destroyed my game because the total conversion I was comparing to had some files renamed for it but my game that I was copying from didn't and important files were lost. By the way the game was called Command & Conquer.

I am aware of that. The program has no way of telling that the animation folder is the animations folder renamed.

Personally, it's a valuable tool for seeing at a glance what has been altered between two versions.

Plus they are only helpful for one part only tells files that were changed wont help when all my mods files were/are changed except for minor stock files. It doesn't answer my questions precisely because if a file I have edited for example the glows.spr file in my mod but its not in the STA2_Classic Mod, I don't need a comparison to know that without it my game will crash, and that doesn't explain why the glows.spr file was deleted, just shows its gone. Makes my job extremely harder.

If anything, your pictures have raised some more questions that I'll be raising sometime soon. :)

Addition:

I know it's valuable to some, I just won't trust them anymore, I'm not taking those risks again, I think that's understandable.

In the future, keep the retorts, counterpoints, and general frustration to the PM system please.

The reason it is difficult to answer your questions is that it is quite difficult to figure out what your queries are.

Most of the time your question is buried in a massive block of text, and you don't follow any logical numbering sequence. Sometimes you have questions surrounded by statements, surrounded by retorts. Not at all easy to follow. Keep questions short and concise - you don't need to explain every little bit of personal information about why you prefer such and such type of chocolate salad dressing and why Vulcan is clearly the best and coolest holiday home in the universe.

Example follows:

Questions:

1. What does X command do?

2. How can I create Y effect?

3. I am getting a crash: here's what I did:

blah blah blah

@Dominus_Noctis: Your posting idea wouldn't really work for my questions, I've tried it well writing them prior to posting each one of them and I found unless I wanted to explain later to those replying to my posts so this method prevents people from asking those useless questions.

Example follows:

Questions:

1. What does X command do?

2. How can I create Y effect?

3. I am getting a crash: here's what I did:

blah blah blah

(1) None of my questions apply to that idea, I'm not looking for and commands such as "x command".

(2) Wanting to create a certain effect, "y effect".

(3) And also, I am not getting any crashes at the moment as well.

So asking questions like this wint help, now if I was trying to make a new Ship, Station, Weapon or Special Weapon, then I'd use it. The only guestions I have that might work for that format are in fact on how to actually get to create a working "Warp-In" file for my hero ships by each era they are meant to be used with. Or the other special features only in FleetOps.

I'd have to disagree with this statement:

The reason it is difficult to answer your questions is that it is quite difficult to figure out what your queries are.

On the contrary, if any one is noticing how I am numbering each one of my questions [Example: (1)], then just read the numbered parts and you got the question or what I am directly asking.

Most of the time your question is buried in a massive block of text, and you don't follow any logical numbering sequence. Sometimes you have questions surrounded by statements, surrounded by retorts. Not at all easy to follow. Keep questions short and concise.

My questions aren't buried in a large amount of text, on the contrary that text is part of my question. It wouldn't be in the numbered section if it wasn't part if my question. I do number them in a logical numbering sequencing, it's my most important questions first usually, and everything I write with them is relevant.

All I'm going to say is that I'll try it maybe but I'm not promising anything.
Everyone after all is their own person and has their own unique ways of posting, plus haven't noticed in the rules saying you have to post like that, it's a suggestion, right?

Ok,I am at least seeing one error in both my stock version of my STA2_Generational Mod and also with my FleetOps version of the mod, the text for certain buttons aren't showing up. It's happening on the section where you set up Instant Action games and also in the sections where you select the missions.

*****

Also, another thing, my FleetOps install won't launch, I've clicked on the executable file next to the data file and its not launching. I've set it to run as Aministrator, even in Compatibilty mode, it just won't launch. Could this be because the game is installed on a Flash Drive?

Now I am having an error with my computer (laptop), after I added some aditional coding that I found in the Sprites.spr file in the STA2_Classic Mod so I added it to my STA2_Generational Mod's Sprite.spr file to give my mod this additional coding:

Code: Select all
@include fleetops.spr
@include fleetops_comp.spr

The attached Screen Shot has the image of the problem before I had to use "CTRL" ALT" "Delete" to bring up Windows Task Manager and end the game, after doing that, everything went back to normal, but the game didn't launch to even the loading screen.

Also, with another mod that I have been thinking about adding into FleetOps I tested in a regular install and I got this Bug Report.

The attached screenshot was taken with my iPad because it seems you can't use the Print Screen feature on the computer for this screen. I hope this shows up and isn't blurry. Short description, it's changing/bleeding color in the image.

Regarding your text being missing, I believe I did inform you that the label and input maps had been changed....
posted on February 18th, 2013, 10:55 pm
@SquireJames: i know, It's happening in both my modded stock version of the game for the text missing as well as the FleetOps version of the STA2_Generational Mod, so both versions are having it and I don't know why.

In my FleetOps version of my mod, I replaced the label and input files with the ones in my modded stock versions. The txt used to show up just fine in the modded stock version of the mod. I didn't make any changes to the files in a very long time so it's just confusing. It might be connected to other problems, like the one with my posted bug report and pictures.

Speaking of the bug report and pictures, does anyone have any ideas?

I did forget to mention, that well transferring a copy of the Star Wars/StarGate mixture mod to my FleetOps mods directory, my laptop's Windows Explorer stopped responding three - four times and don't know why; I'm thinking all problems are connected.

It's sad that if its this laptop, then it's only going to be a year old at the end of March and its warranty is up in about 4 days. Does anyone know how good the HP Pavilion g7-1310us Notebook PC really is in both running wise for STA2 and FleetOps?
