I am taking a more in depth look at the guide as suggested. I'm not sure when I joined, but it was a couple of months ago before I even got the A2 cd. I read a lot of it then, making sense of it as much as I could.
Got the cd, and spent a few weeks just playing the game before I even downloaded the install. Been playing for month/month 1/2. Reading as I go along *although, realized that I'd missed some parts of the guide entirely (calculation unit tag).
Somehow missed the part where freighters could reconstruct themselves as Ktingas like was mentioned earlier. Rereading the guide with closer inspection.
haaaa... and so far, rounds against the AI are not going in my favour. ha straight losses with Merciless. Played one game against federation in Champagne and was using turrets, building more yards etc. Game was over two hours long... I think I was actually suffering from fatigue at the end lol. We were right on top of each other (in map location), and for the first hour, it completely ignored the expansions farther away. After time, even though there is constant battles due to close range, it expands and eventually finds the expansions and takes them out. Ultimately... resources just get to hard to manage. I think the last one I used was 1900/1900. I have to find a way to finish it before my resource costs go up so high. Can't build neghvars when I'm spending 5 min waiting for resources.
Freighter Ktinga mix and researching / studying the passives is the next logical step I would think. But also, just with seeing the ship production rate... not sure I'll be able to do it. Whenever we are on opposite sides of the map, it's just impossible, game over in less than an hour every time.
But it is fun. Trying all sorts of combinations for which stations to build, when, where, how many which or if none at all. The best games are when I have lots of the field yards with extentsions.. but then by the time the AI gets to advanced ships, even though I can use turrets and smaller ships to hold them down lose it over time. (the turrets also prevent any larger ship production.. but seem to be worth having, for defense)
In the two hour game though, had it at one point where I had a mix of Luspets, and Neghvars in a small fleet, 1 vet each, and all ranker at two Gold bars... lol I was destroying AI ships left right and center. Those ranked up ships just don't die. I think I had 12-15 ships total, 4 Neghs and 5 Luspets *with a few vorchas/smaller ships to take some fire, but the fleet took down an AI fleet twice as large and didn't lose any of the big guys(but took damage), then they went on to do some real damage to stations... haha but this was the last line of ships I was able to produce. They fought valiantly to the end... and then AI decided a fleet of 60+ ships should end things. I cloaked a couple ships and just watched it all happen.
Other than this, perhaps there is an easier map to try out that is also smaller but not to small. Or making the Merciless default settings easier. Last ditch option is take out the starbase leading to a win, but only if that is all that's left for me to do.

Myles wrote:yeah, more resources makes the game really boring. fleetops is balanced only for default settings. just push the default settings button, then play.
with changed settings balance is thrown out.
Wait...what? Thats kind of odd since that its most definitly the other way around for me. That is just waaay to long. I've tried it...3 hours...never again. I have to go double resources and max game speed otherwise I fall asleep lol.

Yeah, keep in mind that early klingon ships are amazing at killing miners but very bad at killing stations. Hunt and kill as much as possible to beat the AI.
Also, it's good for Klingons to keep a variety of ships around for different situations, with one exception: vorcha cruisers are almost always a good choice and against the AI should make up at least 40% of your fleet. They're just amazing.
086gf: are you playing the computer? Because it's pretty much impossible to fall asleep against a human in Fleet Ops. The fights aren't as flashy, but micro-managing your fleet is actually MORE important than other RTS games. Double resources and max speed make it sound like you're playing large maps against the AI...and you're not very good

having loads of vorchas works against humans too. the vorcha is such a well rounded ship. u can nearly never go wrong with vorchas.

I found that out in RA3.

No I do it on all maps.

Thats the only thing a early to middle game defensive then all offensive late game player can be lol.

Yes, I am trying to beat it on normal resources. Finding it difficult. I found double resources to be an easy win. lol that extra 4000 can build a fair number turrets/early ships.
Yes, I believe my biggest problem is switching from my field yard ships to my battle yard ships. I am always looking to get those first few Vorchas out quickly though. By the time I get to Imperial yard, it's a steep slope. I tried once to go with one field yard, and two battle yards to start... and it was going ok. But there small ships just outnumbered my battle yard production.
The other thing, investing money in turrets helps, but it restricts me to hit and runs. I take a fleet of 10, attack, destroy 5/6 ships, then let them chase me back to turrets and try to destroy large groups.
It works, but is at best a delay. AI always has more ships.
Yes, there were a few games where I hunted shipyards. Took out expansion shipyards, and advance yards as often as possible. Destroying freighters... I'm just not sure. I will try to do this more aggressively... but it feels like the AI economy is just going to be able to always produce ships.
I never know when my fleet is sufficient for an attack. It's like, attack with 3, and get there and they will have more. Wait to get seven, attack, but they have more again. Normally I make all of my aggressive moves mostly counterattacks. Also, even taking 10 seconds to destroy freighters, it's hard to ignore the AI ships that come to defend.

You really need to play against humans. It is a complete game changer. Any of us would love to show you the ropes.

I think that is a good idea Clintsat. I plan to be on shortly as possible, PC doesn't join to the network internet I have but I will get something to fix that soon.
In the meantime, however, I beat Federation Merciless AI on normal resources Champagne Supernova.
yea
Klingons are victorious.
