New series?
What's your favourite episode? How is romulan ale brewed? - Star Trek in general :-)

Yeah, I don't want prequels too. TOS had enough movies...
A series about another species would be really great. Star Trek is the only universe able to do this, because everyone knows the Klingons or Vulcans already.

Defiantly no animated series, live is almost always best, and no prequels or remakes... If it has to be a prequel, then it should be with EntB or EntC.
But prequel or not, I think it is about time they made a series which doesn't focus on starfleet, like Tyler's suggestion, one following the day and life of a Klingon ship or maybe some other race? Perhaps even a race that hasn't even met the Feds yet, and they don't encounter them till 2 or 3 seasons in or something like that.
Or maybe have a series which alternates ships and/or races every season?
Just my 2 cents.

I am not a friend of your idea with the unknown species. I don't think many people would watch a series about some aliens never heard of. You need something you already know and always wanted to know more about. However, your second idea is cool. One season with Klingons, one with Cardassians, one with Romulans... and in the last season all crews met in some cool finish.

Years back a thread like this would made... and in accordance with that thread I really would like to see a show starring a Romulan commander and crew

Ah, a Romulan show...I'd expect much (underhanded) politics from that.
Unless it's one of those rare, trustworthy Commanders.

Well if a new series were to be made, the creators would really want to be careful to make something that's going to be a hit and get ratings (not wanting to go the way of Enterprise), and that would probably mean doing something fairly familiar (i.e. Federation).
I would be opposed to a show about a show centered around another race, because that would be very anti-Star Trek. A large part of Roddenberry's ST is humanity...humans as the special race with a careful balance between all the extremes, with unlimited potential. People can't relate to Klingons or Romulans.

I can't relate to Sisko or Janeway... what does that say

I don't think there would be much of a problem with taking the series in this direction, as Roddenberry's style has long since been corrupted and mangled (at least in my opinion). For all we know, we could have the next series set around dear 'ol Sela

roddens TOS series was a lot different than TNG which i thought was way too nice and optimistic. the problem that roddenberry had is that he lived in a dream world which is completely different from how humans work. humans can be compassionate, rational, selfess and clean but they can also just as easily be violent, uncaring, selfish and messy as well.
i get the impression that roddenberry wanted to sweep the latter half under the rug and just pretend it wasnt there. one of the reasons i liked DS9 waaay better than TNG was because they tried to flesh out the not so nice characteristics of humans as well. alot of people assume that most star trek fans are all about the preachy messages and political correctness. most of the trekkers i know liked the show because of the settings and technology and characters. as for not relating to klingons or romulans, i only attended one sci fi festival (which bill shatner made an improptu visit too.
) but i noticed alot more people dressed up as klingons than starfleet personal.
i think that a klingon show would be an awesome idea. they can call it "Bumpy Vikings in Space"

OOOH! A show about Klingons! I would definitely watch that. NO way would I miss a show about Klingons. That would be the coolest, and probably best idea in a long time! Just PLEASE stop messing with the timeline!

I just can't see how a show about Klingons would work. Go here, destroy/kill/yell at this, get hammered afterwords, repeat. They wouldn't be exploring or advocating the kind of morals Star Trek is centered on. A Vulcan show, maybe, but I couldn't see any other race working.

zzzzzzzzzzzzz...........im sorry i fell asleep there for a second when you mentioned vulcans. i cant think of any race that it more booooooooring than the vulcans.
the kind of morals star trek advocates are questionable to begin with. humans are the awesome species that can do no wrong, they are totally selfless, peaceful, tolerant and never stoop to the low levels of the other races. gene roddenberrys show is akin to watching a "human power" show. they did a much better job with DS9 where people were actually.......gasp.......human with flaws and such. as much as i like star trek i dont think i can stand another preachy, do goody show. drives me nuts.
klingon society is pretty fascinating in and of itself. a show that fleshed them out some more could be very interesting. it would be like the odyssey or a viking ballad, only in space.
another cool race would be the ferengi although that would be more like comedy show.
and a final note.........please dont pick an actor that is well known from another show. i expected scott bakula to phase out from the enterprise and show up in a dress in some small midwest town in the 60s at the end of every episode. choosing him as the captain was the worst decision they could have made.

LOL
I didn't mind scott too much, but I do agree that it should be an 'unknown' actor no-one's seen before, as much as I would like RDA (Richard Dean Anderson) as a starship captain

I think the positive message of Star Trek is the most important thing about it. Without that Star Trek would not have been as successful as it was/is in the first place. So I think the interesting thing about a show about Klingons or Cardassians(my favourites
) would be how they may implement the Star Trek message into it. they can't just make a Klingon fighting show. That would be cool but with no real deeper sense, like Star Trek 11.
I liked the film, it was a nice story, but it had nothing to think about, no message was conveyed. I hope they'll change that for part 12. I think that's the danger when making a show with "the enemies of the federation", too. It mustn't become a Star Wars series, I'd hate that, it'd kill Star Trek. On the other hand it is possible to bring up totally different issues in those shows. Honor is something quite unimportant in Western society, however, in other parts of the world it may decide about life and death. A problem that could mentioned in a Klingon series.
