even so the web ability is very strong.
Ever watched the TOS episode where the Tholians were introduced? The Enterprise was nearly destroyed by the Tholians, but Spock had a clever technobabble ass-pull with the warp engines. The only reason we didn't see something awesome like the web in "In a Mirror, Darkly" in the Prime Universe was due to budget and the plot requiring the Enterprise get a day or so to find Kirk.

I wonder how 'it appeared in canon' becomes 'it's not canon'... appearing in TOS is about as canon as it gets.

Parasitic race? Like the TNG little neck slugs that took over the starfleet board of admirals?

Close, the only reason it is called biosteel is because it is rather light weight compared to durability. It has the weight of steel but the durability almost equal to tritanium.
Sounds OP... well, here is the science in it. Theoretically what keeps ships together is mostly the integrity field. This race unfortunately only recently began making decent integrity field generators. But an average cruiser would stand between a connie and excelsior in hull strength (according to the best calculations from canon facts).

Well, if you wanted a new cybernetic race, why not create a totally new one based on Vger?

i like the idea of tholians, because we know so little about them in the 24th century we can do whatever we want with them. we can make them super powerful and just say that they were being xenophobic so nobody noticed them. or have them hiding because they are weak lol. we can give them stuff like the web, but we only saw that in limited detail so we can change it to whatever we want. they are putty, a race to shape as we want without violating canon lol.

If I recall correctly, they are planned as a minor NPC faction sometime inthe future.

actually their tiny arrow shaped ship was probably made obsolete along time ago, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that the tolians would of come up with new ships and weapons over the years to keep in with every other race, the tholians are just a minor race but their power could of waned over the centuries of contact with others.

i dont see your point :S
i never said they used the same arrow ships.
they did use them from ent era to tos era. presumably newer designs that just resembled the old ones. like the klingons do.
i personally think that they are not as strong as they once were, their isolationist policy didnt work out for them.

Well, hundreds of years later the Klingons still use some of the same ships (e.g. the B'rel) so the Tholians wouldn't necessarily gotten rid of theirs (though it would be updated with modern technology. Their power could have waned, but we don't really know. They're xenophobic, so it wouldn't be that strange for them to have remained powerful but isolated.

i prefer to think that by staying isolated they havent had pressure to change and develop. thats just my opinion lol, we havent seen them since tos era.

Just based upon what little we do know about the Tholians, there's only one way they'd be likely to show themselves. Someone messing with their space. They aren't just Xenophobes, they're territorial Xenophobes who never bother to inform other races when they've decided that their borders have expanded.
The environment they require to live is what the Federation would call 'Demon Class' at best, so there's not really competition over planetary space. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the Tholians built an outpost type that webs anything near it.
As for the tholian silk...I honestly suspect it to have been stolen. He probably got it from Quark.

Tholians are only territorial and aggressive, they don't mind trading with other races. They don't fear and hate others for being different, just going in their space.
