Star Trek The Next Generation: Birth of the Federation Critic Reviews for PC - GameSpot
7.0 is what one should call above average. Gamspot itself gave 7.8 ("good").

And I never said that BotF is great beyond imagination or flawless, it sure has its problems. :ermm:

exactly where was my post so negative and where did i write something about the EF titles beeing buggy?
i dont wanna sound rude, but, seriously, learn to read properly.

Probably been mentioned already, but Elite Force was about as good as it gets back when people played it online.  Aside from that, though... well, Armada 1 was pretty amazing for its time, but that's probably obvious to anyone who's at this forum.  BC and SFC have their allure as well.  I also have an old NES Trek game that's given me some warm and fuzzy memories since childhood.

what about Star Trek Supremacy? Anything new on that fan made game?

Supremacy seems to have an alpha release available.  The creator still misspells 'canon' on the home page, take that as you will.

Wow really? Sweet!  :woot:

It's so bare-bones as to be borderline nonfunctional, but it exists.  Work continues quietly in the coding department for the time being, according to the latest from the developer.

It's also incredibly annoying that he insists on sticking his name absolutely everywhere.

sounds like it would take a very long time to complete, there is a few thoughts that i can see why this alpha was released. 1, they dont want to continue working on it and so give it a showcase and if someone is interested everything is transferred to them and they continue the work. 2, they dont have the time or lack testers and feedback, so priority management is lacking which isnt a good sign. 3, they felt it was the right time to release it, but thats a silly idea at this stage as other modders can steal ideas and incorperate it into their own WIP mod.

Canny...please, don't turn rediculous.  :sweatdrop: There's still something called mental property. The Alpha was released in summer 08. And I'm confident when knowing Mike Strobel is working on it. He did an incredible job on Birth of the Empires until badasses forced him to put everything "Star Trek" out of the mod. He can do it and will provide a decent game in the end. It will take a long time though. He's also alone as far as I know... even if this was it there's something you can play with and compared to ST Excalibur you can see a game play and not just flybys and the like.
I have no clue what Mike is doing these days but obviously he has a busy time not being able to work on the game. No publisher there to be a pain in the ass.

Canny wrote:i dont have a problem with st games, i just have a problem with the designers shooting themselves in the foot by releasing the games well before they should be out, because of other big titles that may try to usurp the audience for a certain market quarter they wanted to release it. legacy was a perfect example.

Let it be said that the developers weren't the ones who pushed the release, it was the publishers. The publishers felt that development was too slow, they were loosing money, and didn't believe they would make much on the game due to loss of interest (both on their part and of the public), so they essentially forced the release, leaving it in a buggy, half-assed state. Although, I've also read that the people that were assigned to work on this project weren't exactly top notch programmers either.
