I admit to giving Enterprise a sympathy vote; it is incredibly unappreciated and in no way deserves the sheer amount of scorn it receives.

you do realize Enterprise was startreks biggest failing and it was the only one ever cancled  :whistling: so that is why I never watched it in reruns

I can't be certain but... I don't think Enterprise was the only series ever cancelled. The original series was "cancelled" after just 3 seasons; Enterprise was lucky enough to see 4 seasons. And it's funny that you should mention re-runs, since it was in re-reuns that the original Star Trek gained its popularity.

No one would argue that TOS was "Star Trek's biggest failing" as you put it. Granted, Enterprise had its sore points, and certainly does not match up to the quality of earlier series. However, you should not judge the value of something by its perceived popularity, or lack thereof. This is the reverse of the "argumentum ad populum", a logical fallacy (see this link: http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/mathew/logic.html#populum).

I actually believe that when a significant number of fans dislike a new series, the rest tend to follow suit in a kind of "group response", in other words, the demise of the series tends to become a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Add into the mix this reality: the series truly depended on the good will of Paramount, not the fans. The new leader of Paramount was the producer of Buffy, and not too keen on Star Trek. So basically Enterprise had no chance, and was fortunate to see 4 seasons.

I'll admit that certain parts of Enterprise made me cringe. I love space combat but I think even this was overdone, and it was too violent for a Trek series. It was also too sexualized, there was too much shouting, and the continuity flaws were disappointing. On the other hand,  I was charmed to see the development of new technologies, the exploration of strange new planets, and the slow building up of an alliance that would later become the Federation. Season 4 was very good, but I imagine most of the "Enterprise bashers" switched off long before season 4. So I agree with Redshirt, it was an underrated show, and the criticism of it was way out of proportion.

i stopped watching enterprise after like the first 3 episodes. and that's as far as i'm going to go with that.
DS9 got my vote. for many reasons, most of witch doc mentioned. but, i thought it was strange to killoff a very well liked character and replace her with a little whiney brat who kind of looked like her. but, that was more Terry Farrell's doing than anyone else (she quit the show rather abruptly if i recall). i hate to say this but it would have been better to just kill her off, but they wouldn't have quite so much drama with worf & the "dax Clone". i know, i know, i still picked it because even with it's faults i still love it.

Voyager is a close second, and TNG is an even closer third for me. even though TNG is what got me hooked on startrek in the first place. now i still like TOS, even though it has a high camp value. it's just plain simple, very simple fun.

Enterprise was a total failing in my eyes. Not from a money viewpoint, but in how it messed up the established canon history of before. The designs, styling, and special effects might show a more accurate idea of "futuristic" now, but you can't just make a prequel and try to invalidate a previous series. The entire Enterprise show has split Star Trek fans into those who prefer Enterprise over TOS, and those who prefer TOS over Enterprise. It should have never been made. Four series' is enough, Paramount has done it to death now, move on. Leave the rest of the Star Trek universe for the fans to imagine about.

End of rant.

TOS... to be honest I've not watched much of it. I'll have to watch more of the show before I can really comment.

My favourite has to be TNG. It had interesting storylines, both in individual episodes and recurring story arcs. It didn't resort to massive CGI space battles (as in DS9), and didn't mess up the idea of hugely powerful races somewhere "out there", like the Borg. Plus it had Data and Lore... brilliant characters.

DS9 was... interesting. It concentrated too much on special effects, but didn't lose TOO much in the storyline. The inclusion of the Breen was definitely a good move, and the Dominion invasion was also pretty good. The only problem I can see is how people misinterpret the Defiant as a god-ship.

And Voyager... good in how they deal with races like the Kazon and Vidiians. But there's still the issues of time-travel, destroying Borg ships, and just in general how they deal with the Borg. They reduced them from a massively powerful unknown into a "weak", easily combatted pest. Voyager had more trouble with Kazon destroyers in Series 1 than it did against a fleet of Borg Cubes in Season 7.

i think enterprise failing is in the eyes many trekkie fans altho i do know people who thought it was good (manily ppl who dnt give a poo about the trekkie timeline or that sortta thing) i wasnt really convinced about the temperal war since we know that they can time travel properly in the future (as in send whole ships threw time) so how they did that put me of

Right I leave for Switzerland in less than four hours so going to make this brief, anyone who says enterprise deserves to be anal probed. End of the matter i don't want to hear no more.

Voyager was good, and i loved the borg stuff but upon reflection, compare voyager to all the ships in Wolf 359 = not very cannon .... a fleet of ships attack a cube get hammered, a fed ship attacks a fleet of borg and 8479 ships and wins ... although i did love voyager.

DS9 was ok to start but got awesome at the end, no one can deny the awesome ness of the dominion war.

TNG is what got me into trek.

TOS - never had a hige intrest tbh, but still i can happily watch it.

end vote = DS9

I liked DS9 since it showed all the alpha quadrant races.
Focused on expanding the story arc for the alpha quadrant as a whole. plus the Dom war provided great special effects.

Voyager was ok, but the delta quadrant species seemed too detached - more like Star trek entering the Star wars galaxy. It felt as though they were thrown into the plot without any actual back story - like cameos.
Species 8472 was the most connected.

TOS gets me nostalgic, but loses out in story depth and special effects.

TNG was good, and laid the foundation for both DS9 and Voyager, but didn't have as much eye candy or effects.

Enterprise was a bit disappointment. Could have been fun, but the temporal cold war was too far flung - not in concept, just too many factions thrown together. The idea of Silik's people and then the Xindi, and then the Nazi monsters (forgot the names), was just a collage without any theme or sequence.
They should have picked an enemy and expanded on it, revealing more and more. Instead we went from meaningless unknown race1 to meaningless unknown race 2. And they didn't do the kind of job TOS did with the Klingons or TNG did with the Borg or DS9 did with the Dominion, when it came to introducing a new race.
