You in the Zombie Apocalypse

there wont be many other survivors. in nearly all depictions of zombies the survivors are pretty rare. and there's loads of fuel about. and if u run into other survivors you would usually join them for strength in numbers, not fight over fuel. dont collide with lamposts if u dont want your car wrecked. similarly dont drive your tank off a cliff
and if your car is damaged and not repairable, steal another car. you wont find many tanks laying about in the street.
tanks have very few advantages against zombies. cars/lightly armoured vehicles have many.

If you shot a zombie with magnum you will rip its arm off but you will have to be some 5m or to put in american 13,5 feet from it , if you use mosin sniper you can hit it in the head from 3km. The most important is to be safe not powerfull if you know woth I mean.![]()
If I recall correctly, to have a chance to hit anything above 2Km range, you need to be a devoted sniper, and use either handpicked or self loaded ammunition. If you pick up random bullets from a normal box, the tolerance rates in manufacture will prevent you from reaching accurately at those distances. So you have to choose the bullets one by one and make sure they are within zero tolerance, or load them by yourself with the exquisite precision of a master gunner.
And even in that case, forget about headshots. Those are quite cool and dramatic in the movies, but in real life, you need a lot of luck.
Nonetheless, if you are 2+Km from the zombie horde, unless you need to get to where they are or pass through them, you actually have a considerable head start on them, why don't you use it and avoid the horde altogether?
On the subject of tanks vs cars, I'd get myself a Hum-vee. Best of both worlds.

Myles wrote:i wouldnt want a tank to deal with zombies. ignoring the fact that i dont know how to drive a tank, and most non military people probably dont know either, a tank is slower and louder. and when it breaks down repairs are gonna be a lot more difficult. plus you really should have a separate gunner, and most people wont know how to load or fire a tank's main weapon. plus the main gun will have limited ammo.
i'd prefer a light truck or something. something that drives reasonably similar to a normal car, but can carry food and survival stuff.
Yep your logic is sound.
Not only would normal people not know how to drive one but even if you managed this and started driving around like a lunatic you will make so much noise that every zombie around will be coming and then what do you do when you very quickly need to refuel.
Who ever chooses a tank is going to be a dead guy or a zombie.
Ill be inside a mall building up an arsenal of weapons before flying the helicoptor on the roof to the nearest army base and tech'ing up lol.
Let face it if zombies become a reality and they are not dealt with quickly and it becomes the end of the world then your death is inevitable it will just be a matter of prolonging your life to the point you die a horrible and gruesome death.

Tyler wrote:Why does no-one ever use bikes in Zombie films? Faster than walking with equal effort, no fuel and often little sound.
Not that any transport would be useful against some zombies.
Bikes dont offer enough protection in comparison to a car which shields you or walking meaning your agile and can dodge the slow dumb zombies.
With a bike you will be limited to going forward or slow down to turn meaning you would very likely get scratched or caught in which case gg.

I agree a bike offers no protection and limits your movement to a degree. but on the other hand, a bike increases your speed. I think a bike would be great considering the speed, the distance and load you can carry at that speed. And if you were to run into issues, dismounting is not a hard thing to do.
For me personally I coulden't use a bike due to my right knee being injured. So a good, solid 4x4 would be my transportation.

I could drive a tank i drive a tractor for work so id figure out how to drive the tank. As i live in Iowa i think that my end destination would be maybe be the rock island arsenal. Are there sea zombies because a boat could be the way to go.

most zombies dont swim. but a boat has other disadvantages, such as being far from where other survivors will be. and being far from resources like food and fuel.

Boats would probably be used as a temporary thing, gather somewhere the Zombies can't get to before testing for carriers and moving somewhere safe. Large numbers of boats iogether would reduce the risk of carriers getting everyone.

In Land of the Dead the Zombies learned how to swim. And since they overrun the whole world in most zombiemovies/games they have to be able to swim somehow. Or drive a boat.
Besides, driving tanks today is quite similar to driving cars as far as I know. Saw some documentations about that. I'd like a tank, too but the problem really is gasoline. Those damn things need loads of stuff, the new ones even more than the older ones with their gas turbine. Perhaps a truck is enough protecton against Zombies, you don't necessarily need a tank, they seldom have armour piercing weapons.
Concerning bikes: they just give too little protection and newer Zombies can run so you have to be really healthy to get away from some freaks that never need to retire.

Overruning the world wouldn't require swimming ability, just carriers getting to other countries. Swimming zombies would just make it even worse.

You just need to find a supercarrier or one of those big cruise ships, clear the thing out and make it your home, depending on how many people are with you those ships are pretty well stocked with supplies.

In land of the dead they didnt learn to swim they just jumped in and walked along the bottom till they got to shore.
Modern tanks are nothing like driving cars i know that from experience, it takes alot of training to learn to drive one.
Yes my first thought would be a double decker bus, armour up the bottom deck by weilding plates around it enough to prevemnt zombies from getting in and you have your self a protable refuge that you can even sleep in.

As for me, I'd survive. The people around me would just HAPPEN to vanish...
