While I agree that, by comparison, ST looks like hard sci-fi, both tend to place more importance in the plot than in the tech aspects of the universe.

And if the physics gets in the way of the story telling, it will be happily stomped upon BOTH in SW and ST.

So a comparison/confrontation is actually next to impossible to gauge.

It only gets stomped in Abram's Trek.  Most ST is based on science....plot is written around science.....even if some of it is made up science, its still science.  SW is based mostly on fantasy....moving shit with your mind, etc.

Discovery Channel also suggested that Star Wars is a Type 3 Civilization, well it's core at least.
Majority in Star Trek was / it's Type 2. I'm sure Type 3 is also present in the Milky Way, but it's not that well known. Hope you guys know that Star Wars did not happen in the Milky Way, and who knows what kind of technology they may have now in the present time line of Star Trek.
A long time ago suggests some time in the past.

LOL LOL LOL LOL.  On this note I'm officially "peacing" from this thread.  My brain is going to explode from being bombarded with the homoerotic nerd on nerd love/hate fest going on here.  :borg:

  Borg 101

You're not observing, you're just making biased assumptions.

We are all biased(Star trek Site)

The poll is biased(both selections are startrek)

Borg 101's name makes him biased.  So whats your point Dave? :D

This thread is going to turn into what all other st vs sw threads have turned into. It would be a good idea to stop it now.

Not sure how to answer this.
I'm just trying to show that Star Wars gets horribly depicted in movies, and these guys take this into account and nerf down it's advances.

On a site called for a mod called Star Trek Armada: Fleet Operations, the outcome is fairly obvious...
If you really took all these races and shoved them into one galaxy and announced a war...

Feds ally with SW Allys because theyre both idealists.  Klings are allied with Feds.  Roms pick the strongest side.  Empire gets blasted into the stone age.  Borg, Dom, 8472 declare war on everyone because that is just how they roll

Yeah I know thats not really the point, but you have to admit that it would probably work out that way in an actual war. Everyone is biased and I think the primary appeal is how awesome cross-universe battles would be.  Not to mention I want to see data disembowl C-3PO ( I just never liked him...).  We all want to see Star Destroyers tangle with the Galactica, the Enterprise dogfight the Ori, and Picard arm wrestle Adama....which gives me an idea...

Yes, and my earlier point about lack of diversity is because if you arent diverse, then you lose a creative battle. For example, all alpha quad races use the same energy weps (phasers/disruptors) and so they refine that tech to the edge of perfection.  But because of that, the Dom polaron beams punch right through their shields when they first arrive.  Linear development leads to universal weaknesses later on.  Someone always invents something new and different, its just how technology keeps from stagnating.  You always gotta keep advancing and growing and adapting... and if you dont adapt... :borg: :borg:

I love SW and ST, stargate, BSG and it just upsets me to no end that SW tech is the same over and over (aka, new tech = same armor/shields/weps.. but.. more of them).  I mean the most awesome units are maul's ship because its the first one to get a cloak (actually my fav will always by that blockade runner)! and the vong because they are new, and show the weakness of linear progression.

Its all cool nekura.  We at Fleetops have pretty much established that there can never be a decisive winner, we have also established, like I have previously stated, that the battles are awesome no matter who wins.  Most people here love more than one series and as such want to see them fight each other... to the death.  Enjoy the battles, discuss tactics and make observations/queries, but theres really no point in bashing one side or claiming absolute victory.  Personally, I think ST wins.  Am i right? No, but im not wrong either.  And its fun to argue it as long as you know when to give some ground.  The great thing about this forum is that if anyone gets a little ticked off, all they have to do is open up fleetops and take it out on some poor AI in a horribly lopsided match to let off steam.

Dan, the blockade runner for me is the excelsior of the SW universe, solid and unique in design. It is just something beautiful to behold.  And interesting techs are sadly few and far between in SW, but in my previous post i had completely forgotten the interdictor.  Although it looks retarded, its worth mentioning.

If you want to change things up a bit, go with my other idea and have the captains/admirals/heroes/etc fight it out hand to hand.  No fancy little force powers or lightsabers or phasers or bat'leth or assimilation tubules.  I have a feeling that Ackbar is going to come out of this one missing an eye....
