Sci fi Series?
Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

Red Dwarf? Might be more along the lines of those crazy muppets in space, but it does have it's moments.
Pales when compared to B5... Kosh rocks, but then so does Londo!

I had the impression that Kevon Sorbo had big problems of getting away from the "Hercules"-role

Whenever fights turned out into close combat there really was no difference (at least visible to me).
I sometimes thought "Put Picard in there, giving the order to get away from somewhere because of the first directive and Andromeda than replies "I'm a warship, Jean-Luc. I don't run away because of directives.". I wonder what this AI-stuff would have done to the Enterprise <.<

But beside the named series there are some other very good ones
Serenity (to bad, just one Season and one Movie)
Space - Above and Beyond
Earth 2 (one season..)
Earth final Conflict (both SciFi but not in space)
Lexx (somehow strange)
Do you like Animes?
I only saw the Serenity-movie, and I think the idea was great. Its genre-mix reminded me of the general setting-elements of the Anime "Saber Rider" and the cartoon-series "Galaxy Rangers", due to the mix between starships, sci-fi-high-tech stuff and Western in parts.
Also, the characters of Serenity seemed to be interesting and believable persons so far.
Lexx is something I had very mixed feelings about, since the whole setting and especially that "Lexx" itself were quite disturbing to me. But I liked the idea of having a character onboard who is actually undead while the living ones were actually either not helpful or simply stupid (strange yes, but funny to watch as well sometimes)

The anime-part... I kinda liked Gundam Wing. The sequels and the older series of that (huge!) franchise not that much, and I'm not that crazy about anime like other people I know by far <.<
In some ways I found "Ulysses 31" to be very interesting, not exactly because of the idea of telling the mythological story of Ulysses in a strange "new" way, but because some of the charactes (may they be Ulysses himself or the episode-specific figures) sometimes acted in very touching ways around a very interesting setting. I could think different about it now, since it has been years of not watching it and it's basically a show for children (wasn't popular here so the local channels seem to have forgotten it a long time ago) but I liked it when I watched it.

Firefly was a Great TV series, the best in a long time, there early cancelation was yet another american tv dabocial we might never recover from. however the DVD sales of the almost aired first season was enough to convince the powers that be that they COULD and DID do a movie called Serenity. (also the name of the ship of said show)
GREAT SHOW, HIGHLY RECOMMENED, FIREFLY

At least, Firefly will never suffer from something like the seventh season of "Star Trek DS9", or the last season of Earth: Final conflict.

Man, if I was able to direct a Star Trek series, it would be not only intense, but also very high of quality (I'm a perfectionist after all, I'd want all the models to be perfect).
It'd basically be a series of a Temporal War, where you get to see all the generations between the currently defined ones (so you'll see the times of the Ent B and C!). Plus I'd probably go beyond the standard episode count (I was thinking of 1500 episodes divided into 15 seasons).

How many episodes does a season of Star Trek usually have?
Around 20? 15 multiplied with 20 are 300... So you have to make either 100 Episodes per season (which is way too much) or 75 seasons. Have fun with writing so many stories with being perfect o.o
I want to remember you of something..
Deep Space Nine had two seasons (1 & 2) which were basically imitations of TNG. The seasons 3 to 6 were outstanding (if not judged as a trek-formula-based series) and the seventh was a catastrophe, and the only explanation for this is: They ran out of good and / or new ideas.
And temporal cold war... are you serious?
Time-travel is the most difficult thing to write, if you want it to make sense. And I don't think any time travel in any movie or series made 100% sense.
Edit: I recommend you inform yourself about the production of Star Trek shows on Memory Alpha for example. Please.

Besides Babylon 5 and Space above and Beyond and Farscape I highly recomend Sliders. Omg...now Im sad that there isnt a FO level quality mod of B5 for armada...
Anyways Watch B5 first...and the first season is lil slowish it might seem but really to understand the whole story you gota watch the entire saga....And I will freely admit I cried for the series finale....and usually Im a rock so I can atest to how truly epic a saga it was.

I can say little other than what has already been stated...
StarGate SG1. Don't bother with the Other stargates, SG1 is the best

Signed
And as some guys before I highly recommend Babylon 5. Even though the las season isn't all that good it's an overall maserpiece in the Science-Fiction genre.

No, a Temproal Cold War would be minimum combat between the enemies (according to the historical dictionary). I'm talking about a literal war of the Federation being at war with a Future Empire. And I mean a war that makes the Dominion War just look like a single murder scene. (aka... billions of billions of ships)

I loved Stargate SG1 right up till they defeated both the Gaulold and the replicators in the same episode. Season 7 was ok because i was cool with sam being in charge and macgyver sitting behind the desk. (even though that doesnt seem like him) and the only thing good about seasons 8 - 10 was Valla she was interesting and different from all the rest of the characters. I hated cam mitchell and the ori. Then there was one episode episode where some moron on the script crew decided that they would make jack cam's dad and they stuck that in there and never talked about again, can you say FAIL. As for the rest of stargate series SGA was not as good but i enjoyed it anyway. I cried when Carson died (he was my favorite, plus it was 2 am at the time) and i like ronin, tayla, sheppard, and mckay was always good for a laugh. Btw how did mckay get Dr. Keller. SGA was the best when sam commanded it and it was interesting when all the various SG1 people came to the pegasus galaxy. The jury is still out on SGU i could like it but idk yet. Anyway thats my collective musings on the stargate saga.

I agree with most everything you just said.
SGU is ok, but might as well be called Stargate Galactica. *Facepalm*
too much drama, and not enough military action. and, they have no O'Neill character either. only the computer geek is interesting, and he is kinda a wimp, so he is a lil' useless. Still though like you said, there haven't been enough episodes to really determine how good the series is.

I loved how Colonel Young punched that other guy and said, "Stay away from my wife!" I like Colonel Young. But you're right, it is Stargate Galactica. 200 survivors...in search of a home...called Earth.
With an old battle-capable ship that should be mothballed their only means of survival.
And I love that Rush got stranded! A foremost expert on getting advanced alien technology to work, and he's stuck on a planet with a ship and a ring-shaped device capable of allowing him to travel to multiple planets in a galactic network. How ever will he escape!
