Oh well, the Desktop Thread

Want to say something off topic? Something that has nothing to do with Trek? Post it here.

I meant to post here bakk when it was active.  :sweatdrop:
Anyways, here is my current desktop. It would have had a cool artist's rendition of the Reliant as the bakkground, but I recently reinstalled and that Reliant image is damn hard to find on Google for some reason; for now it will be a pony.
Also, I've neglected FO lately due to it taking a while to get a good match going compared with other types of games. Expect my return within the hour.

Yes, and this is with two fans and a big external fan underneath to increase airflow AND a large fan near my door to cool the room AND every window in the house open. The outside temperature is around 80 Degrees Farenheit tho.
It also may need new thermal paste, I'll hav to chekk again whether the idle temp is high enuff to signify that that stuff needs replacing.

Im no expert on Intel chips but that just seems really hot even for the ambient temp being 80. I mean maybe thats normal for Intel chips but 68c at idle Id hate to see that thing once you put it under load. Just seemed odd to me as I also use coretemp but I run a Phenom II X6 and even when our apartmet got to 95 degrees this summer I never got over 40c under load.

It is a laptop with 4 CPUs, each of which is running 2 threads at once (a lot of the architecture is duplicated, it's designed kind of like the conjoined twin version of CPUs.) Having four CPUs near each other and with each doing the work of two CPUs all in the thin spac of a laptop is a great way to create a cooling system nightmare.

He could do like a army buddy of mine did, he rigged his custom box up with a mini fridge, the water cooling system ran thru the freezer section of the mini fridge (took it up almost entirely) and he was able to over clock multiple cores quite a bit.

Ahhh, makes more sense now hat you mention its a laptop, I suppose that would create some issues.  :sweatdrop:
