You can also edit the link that you've posted, and it will give you the option to type in whatever you want the link to say.

by default the url shouldn't be display anyway, as soon as you type in an url like
Code: Select all
www.fleetops.net

instead of just the url this site translates into it's title like Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Welcome to Fleet Operations! instead. if you edit the site again then, you can easily edit the title displayed

i have a question about the forum rules:

is posting in a thread that is old (necroing) bad?

on many sites necroing is considered bad, and nearly all threads are locked after a period of inactivity.

but threads are rarely locked here and there is nothing in the forum rules against it, as long as posts are on topic.

i ask this because it seems that the mods seem to have differing positions on necroing. i just wanted the definitive forum policy.

From what opinion I've seen, it seems to be bad if the zombie is off-topic.

i should clarify my post, i meant only for the very specific case where the posts are on topic. off topic necroing i am against.

on topic necroing i am neutral on, i just want a policy established so that all the moderators follow the same policy.

It certainly depends on situation, how useful the post is to the old topic and how old the original post is. Replying to an off-topic to in an old thread is not useful. Replies like "That is cool" or "Nice idea" to an over year old topic aren't too useful either, although they might be comments about the original topic.

Generally the older the topic gets the better the reason for posting on it should be. If a bug remains unfixed posting reply about the topic into an old thread shouldn't be be a problem, depends on the situation of course.

These are just my thoughts about it. For an official policy we have to wait for the devs to post.

Well, as the Necromancer of the forum... I think as long as it is on-topic or closely related it should be fine.

Each Dev and each moderator has a different opinion. Optec in general is very lenient. Doca will close things much more quickly. Jan, Zebh, and myself will close things at different 'thresholds' as well based on personal feeling.

What should be bad in posting in an old topic (given the post is in topic of course)?
